Joe Wormleighton is a steady performer for the U.21 team, and he is one to watch as Leicester takes their next steps in football. Another to impress at this level is Tawanda Maswanhise. Instead of bying fringe, you need to get one or two players from the academy up into the first team squad season by season. These two are ready to be tested.
Wormleighton has this season played in 19 of the 22 league games in the PL2, and mostly used as a full back, but yesterday were pushed higher in the field with experienced men, Jannik Vestergaard and Ryan Bertrand part of the set-up.
Leicester are stuck at the bottom, despite this great 3-2 win at home, and it will be difficult to reach the teams in front to avoid the relegation, but still getting a lot of positives going forward will hopefully be enough to understand that to play at the highest level of this league pyramid will be vital.
Goals from Popov, Maswanhise and Cover secured the win and hopefully more games can be won before the season close.
The policy to buy fringe for millions must stop as this will over time never be a good way to communicate your youth team stragties and policies and just throw most of the younger players out when they reach the age of 21. That is a shame as they could be on the fringe and important as cover, with a smaller first team group.
Tawanda Maswanhise was also showing his level yesterday, strangely not been part given a chance, and alongside Joe Wormleighton, these two are certainly men to watch as we go forward.
When you watch a player you can see almost straight away that he has the movement, skills and ability to take the next steps, and hopefully replacing a few of the heavy earners, you could call on a few in this team.
