Just a few days since the finish of the season, but still plenty of rumours out there, regarding players coming in and going out. Still very little or nothing to report about. So far most of the talk has no real substance. Rumours coming out, are mostly at a category three or lower levels in reliability.
But a report regarding Harry Souttar, makes some sense, judging him as a possible loan move to Cardiff. This is one to have an eye on, as it has a good grade of relevance.
Cardiff finished 12th in Championship this season and earlier having a challenge on, to get into that play-off zone, but still missing out with a squad probably a bit thin, to be able to be part of a battle all the way into the final days of a very tough competition.
Cardiff have a good foundation, with a solid ownership, looking at it in perspective. The fact that they could look for a solid loan signing, makes a lot of sense. Leicester paid Stoke £15million for the services of Harry Souttar, becoming the highest transfer fee ever paid for an Australian footballer. This happened on the last day of the January 2023 transfer window. The deprecations on his transfer fee, towards his contract lenght, ending in June 2028, makes it evident that no club on planet earth will be willing to pay the price close to £15million for his services at this point.
The chance of a loan fee in the region of £500.000 and a reduced wage bill, would of course free up money to get a free agent in, on a deal at Leicester. Bringing in a player with a different profile as all parties could benefit from it.
What counts against a move to Championship and Cardiff, is the size of wages to be paid to Harry Souttar and if Cardiff are able or willing to meet those terms. This must be balanced against what options are out there to find the quality needed to get a push towards the play-off zone or a straight promotion.
Leicester are stuck with players such as Bouba Soumare, Victor Kristiansen, Harry Souttar and Patson Daka, with little or no hope of getting the fees needed. The risk of a major loss between the transfer fee paid and the transfer fee gained, makes it difficult to do any other business than on loaning them out, and in that picture it might be better to keep them around, all four, good players.
