The game against Augsburg was played at FC Kempten home arena Illerstadion. A good crowd had come to the game as Leicester did get another test to show their worth.
The team selection again had changes, seeing Harry Winks as captain, leaving Conor Coady and Kaleb Okoli on the bench as Jannik Vestergaard and Wout Faes got starting positions. Victor Kristiansen was also given a start, leaving Ricardo Pereira on the bench. Also starting, Bobby De Cordova-Reid.
Augsburg came to the game with a well composed side in a 4-3-1-2 formation, against Leicester coming out in a flat 4-3-3, as it looked in the set up, but still some uncertainty about the role occupied by Bobby De Cordova-Reid, simply believing the set up as it was lined up.
Leicester again in a new formation with new players introduced, made it difficult for themselves when they came under after just 10 minutes. No real detirmination and power from the Leicester defence, leaving Hermansen misplaced on the line, when Augsburg’s tall defender Kevin Schlotterbeck scored a header from the corner.
Stephy Mavididi and Abdul Fatawu later in the half having positive attempts, coming close with good shots. Augsburg tested Mads Hermansen occasionally, as the Leicester shotstopper made another solid performance.
Augsburg is a well established Bundesliga team, being up in the top flight since 2011. Last season ending 11th and of course building momentum under their coach Jess Thorup, possibly being very satisfied with the result as they last week played TS Galaxy on tour in South Africa, coming home with a 1-2 defeat.
Second half became a bit dull, with a header from Kasey McAteer from a Victor Kristiansen corner, the only major chance from a Leicester point of view, but new Augsburg goalkeeper Ndeilko Labrovic, signed this summer from Croatian club Rijeka, saved the powerless header without problems.
Leicester made a number of substitution through out second half. Ricardo Pereira and Conor Coady among them, putting in a good shift as their performances were solid. Ben Nelson also got a number of minutes, he also showed that he can cope with the level.
Again a pre-season summer game with a few positives as well as having those negative wibes that comes around when you are not able to settle a draw or a win, no goals scored and in real not getting the outcome you might be looking for. Not that this should see anyone worried at all, as the game in itself showed that Leicester were on level terms with Augsburg.
Leicester will take on Lens in their last pre-season preperation game, coming up on the 10th of August. Hopepfully being closer to a set up that at this point looks far from a settled unit. We are also waiting for a few changes in and out, before we do have the full picture going into the season.
Leicester wore black armbands in honour of Craig Shakespeare, that sadly passed away on Thursday.
