For a certain group of Leicester fans, the blame game and to find a scapegoat, looks more important than in real looking at the broader picture, the facts and making the correct conclusions.
This mob of people looks to be out to catch someone for a run of 7 defeats in Premier League, and believe in lies so far from the truth you can get.
Rudkin was appointed the Academy Manager at Leicester City in June 2003 having previously been a schoolboy in the City youth system himself when he was 16 and working as a youth coach since 1998. After working as a coach on a part-time basis Rudkin took up the full-time post of Head Coach at the then centre of excellence. During that period Leicester produced a number of outstanding talents which have progressed from the Academy including Emile Heskey and Matt Piper.
Rudkin holds the UEFA Pro licence and has completed the Academy Director’s licence. On 29 August 2007, he jointly took over managerial responsibility of Leicester after Martin Allen left by mutual consent. Rudkin has since overseen the development of players through the Leicester City youth academy such as Andy King, Joe Mattock, Richard Stearman, Jeffrey Schlupp and Liam Moore. All five having gained international recognition in the form of either a full international cap or an Under-21 international cap.
On 14 December 2014, Rudkin replaced the outgoing Terry Robinson as director of football. Since his appointment, Rudkin has been involved in several transfers being discussed, as well as bringing in some of the best talents on the planet earth, making huge profit on sales.

Harry Maguire, N’Golo Kantè, James Maddison, Danny Drinkwater, Riyad Mahrez and Wesley Fofana are six players who were signed for fees on much lower value than what they were sold for, fantastic business. Adding to that the sales of home grown academy talent such as Jeffrey Schlupp, Harvey Barnes, Ben Chilwell and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, you have some very shrewd and special business done. There are of course a number of signings such as Dennis Praet, Kelechi Iheanacho, Youri Tielemans and Caglar Soyuncu to discuss. Players who see out their contracts, to be able to leave on a free, is a difficult part of the transfer business today. Players out of contract can do what they like, the club have no power or nothing to say in that type of situation.
The signings of Ahmed Musa, Ron-Robert Zieler and Islam Slimani also comes into the negative path of business, but if you do know what was going on at the club at the time these players were brought in, you would probably done the same. Riyad Mahrez, Kasper Schmeichel and Jamie Vardy were just weeks after the Premier League win, chased by other clubs, and if they had all left, which potentially could have happened, Leicester would have been without some of their best players, not having any back up at all. Mahrez, Schmeichel and Vardy eventually signed new deals at the club, that made it possible for the trio to continue, no one really interested in losing them after that special season.
Jon Rudkin was actually not the director of football at the club from the start of the Thai ownership as he came into the frame in that great escape season. The first major transfer to appear under his leadership was the club record signing of Andrej Kramaric for a fee of €9m, a player sold to Hoffenheim a year and a half later for €11m.
In the 2015/16 season players were signed for €49,9m, the sales were not more than €9,5m, the club taking action to buy from a higher shelf to be able to secure more quality, as we all did see, Leicester becoming winners of the Premier League. The net use of €40m did secure the position in Premier League.
The list of sales and signings for the next seasons are seen below. We can make a good conclusion on Jon Rudkin on those numbers, as it looks well balanced in a total picture. For a man to be blamed for everything wrong, this is actually the total opposite.
If you look at the value of the current squad, believed to be €269,0m, looking up Transfermarkt. All in all under the time Jon Rudkin has been at the club, we have never seen more success. A few bumps along the way, but so far balanced out good. Still having a squad at relatively high value. We can conclude that Jon Rudkin is not to blame, as managers do decide on the players they sign. The unbalance regarding FFP and PSR is much more related to Covid-19 and the fact that the club got relegated. Looking at the 2021-22 season, sales of just £4million were seen, all that happened in a period were Brendan Rodgers was in charge, blaming the club for not backing him enough. To point at Jon Rudkin, acting in good safety, but still being stretched to far limits, is something you would do if you have little or no facts regarding the situation in play. To also notice is the modest values you see on Bilal El-Khannouss and Mads Hermansen, who are no the way up as the season run. Jakub Stolarczyk and Abdul Fatawu are others who could potentially become players seen at a much higher value.
Jon Rudkin has done nothing wrong, he is not to blame. Hopefully him and Top will sort everything out in the best way possible to see the club continue to build for the future, with some of the most exciting young players in the game coming through.
