Leicester U21 Ex Players: Special Journeys, Internationals and Local Heroes, Where Are They Now?

Ten years ago Alex Pascanu was part of the Leicester City U21 set up. He has since then moved on to new destinations and at present playing for Rapid Bucuresti. He has also made his full international debut for Romania, that happened in 2024. Pascanu played his last game in the Rumanian Superliga on the 21st of September in a 1-1 draw vs. Hermannstadt. He joined his current club in 2024, after a spell in Spain, representing Sporting Gijon as one of his clubs.

Darnell Johnson was another player in that set up. A young promising England Youth prospect that left Leicester in 2021, signing for Fleetwood Town. He has since played for Forest Green Rovers, Spalding and at present playing non-league football with Cambridge City.

Elliott Moore at present a free agent after leaving Oxford United. He never played in the Leicester first team, but spent time on loan at OH Leuven being impressive for the Belgians. He later joined Oxford United and was their captain before being released earlier this month. He was sad to be on his way to Saudi Pro League, but at this point without a club.

Cedric Kipre, Josh Knight, Ben Chilwell and Callum Elder were four other players in that set up. All of them left Leicester, besides Ben Chilwell, without any significat fees paid for ther services. Funnily, the trio Kipre, Knight, and Elder are all playing in The Championship now. They are part of Ipswich, Portsmouth, and Derby. Ben Chilwell recently made a move to Strasbourg.

Simonas Stankevičius was among those players in this U21 set up 10 years ago. He is currently playing for Top Kickers an amateur Lithuanian football club. Stankaevicius was a capped at international level and for a while playing in Norway for Mjondalen and Egersund.

Few might remember Dylan Watts, who had a brief spell at Leicester from 2016 to 2018. He joined the club from UCD. He moved back to Ireland and signed from Shamrock Rovers. He has since his return played 193 times for his club and scored 20 goals. He is a four time Irish league winner. He has shown great promise. He is among the best players in the league. He has shined in European football, scoring his first goal in the 2022–23 UEFA Champions League first qualifying round win over Hibernians of Malta. Watts netted again in the 2022–23 UEFA Europa League win over KF Shkupi. On 7 November 2024, Watts scored in a 2–1 victory over The New Saints. This victory was in the UEFA Conference League. Watts was voted PFAI Player of the Year for the 2024 season by his fellow professionals in the league. Watts was back in European action on the 1st of September, celebrating his 50th European game for his club. Watts and his Shamrock are current leaders of the league this season. They were last on the field in a 1-1 draw vs. Cork City on the 19th of September.

Jacob Blyth among those seen as promising in that group is at present playing for Wythenshawe Town FC. They are compting in Northern Premier League. The 7 to 8 level of the English league pyramid. Blyth moved from Leicester to Motherwell in 2016. He has since had a nomadic life in football and at 33 founding himself in non-league action. He was close to a breakthrough at the highest level. However, he vanished into the wilderness of football.
