Why Jake Evans Is No Leicester City First Team Option At This Point

Leicester are in desperate need of a target man to score the goals that at the moment are lacking. Talking up Jake Evans as the solution seems like a desperate act. It also risks upsetting the balance in the first team squad.

Marti Cifuentes is an experienced coach and manager. He knows the impact of bringing too many young players into the first team frame. At the same time, he needs to keep morale high among his first team professionals.

You can’t just throw players in and out constantly. We often see them thrown out again. They end up in limbo, not really knowing much about the future. Then you are on a lost road and close to ruining your own project. This project under Marti is still promising, despite having lost two away games in a row.

Jake Evans is scoring goals at the moment at a level far below Championship. He is not a natural forward and he needs more time to develope. The major question is about Marti’s strategy for his other forwards. How should he handle Julian Carranza, Jordan Ayew and Patson Daka?

Jake Evans can be a solution in the future. You need to give him a regular place in the squad and make him integral. Sell off players so you do not have five different options to use up front. You need two, not more than three. The third alternative should be an hybrid player who can cover more than one position.

The reason for bringing in Julian Carranza was to have cover, or use him as a first choice. Marti never valued Jake Evans as that option early on, maybe he should have. Jake Evans is a young and talented footballer. He is not yet one to trust in 46 league games at this level. That would be totally out of the question, so instead Marti has put his trust in Ayew, Daka and Carranza.

Another reason that rules Jake Evans out is his call-up to the England U17 squad. He will play in the 2025 Qatar World Cup in November. This is of course important to understand. Jake Evans will not be available for Leicester in this period of time.

We have seen articles about Jake Evans being talked up as a front man solution for Leicester at this point. Obviously, those reports are based on no background knowledge about the player’s diary. They have no idea of his plans, so the ink is much better used on other topics.

We wish Jake Evans and also Louis Page all the best in the World Cup. Hopefully coming back with great memories and valuable experiences.
