Marti Cifuentes had to make changes, but was it necessary to do as many as he did. Jeremy Monga was out sick as earlier reported. Ramsey was not available due to injury. Julian Carranza and Bouba Soumare were given starting positions. Jordan Ayew losing his place to Julian Carranza. Stephy Mavididi also in the starting eleven.
Leicester started positive. They had a number of opportunities early on. Missing those chances will often give the opponent opportunities to score and take advantage. This was exactly what Blackburn did.
In those opening minutes, Jannik Vestergaard hoped for a goal. His header reached the goal. However, Stephy Mavididi, clearly in an offside position, touched the ball.
Then in the 20th minute, Leicester are off the gas. A pass inside the Leicester penalty area reaches Andri Gudjohnsen. Bouba Soumare is unfortunate and cannot block the pass. Instead, it ends up at the feet of the Blackburn striker, who has no problems putting the ball in the net. Blackburn are 1-0 up.
City pushed for a response, but we couldn’t get through the Blackburn rearguard. Jordan James was convinced Leicester should have had a penalty when Taylor Gardner-Hickman appeared to handle his cross inside the box.
Caleb Okoli bravely blocked Yuki Ohashi’s fierce strike soon after, with Jakub Stolarczyk still forced into a solid stop to prevent a second goal. The Fatawu-Ricardo combination sparked a chance late in the half, presenting Mavididi another opening, but his effort rose over the bar. James also curled off target from distance.
After the breake, Blackburn was close to double their lead. Taylor Gardner-Hickman shooting over in space inside the area. Although Leicester also had openings, it was a sign of things to come before the final whistle.

Then after 54 minutes Leicester should have levelled. Stephy Mavididi was on open goal, but again Blackburn goalkeeper Toth made a special save. Jordan James had the pass. Julian Carranza was shielding the ball. We all believed that would be the goal to see Leicester equal, but it never happened.
Then in the 64th minute the game was put to bed by Andri Gudjohnsen, scoring his second on the day. A ruthless finish inside the box made it clear, this would be another difficult game to get something from.
A number of changes were made in and around these moments. Patson Daka, Jordan Ayew, Silko Thomas, Luke Thomas and Bobby De Cordova-Reid all got minutes. Patson Daka and Silko Thomas were both close to get something, but they were both stopped before hitting the trigger.
Leicester again struggled to break down a team playing with more or less five men in defence. They took their chances cleverly but were left with nothing again.
- Positives
- A good start who could have resulted in a few early goals
- Jacub Stolarczyk and Jordan James both standing out as good contributers in a match without many Leicester highligts
- Ball possession is still very high, that means that Leicester are far from outplayed as we have seen in most games this season
- Creating enough to win this game
- Negatives
- Victor Kristiansen and Julian Carranza looks far from ready to start games for Leicester
- The correct balance and ability as well as energy in the team is lacking and the playing patterns looks fragile and out of rythm
- Letting in two goals, based on errors in defensive areas for Leicester
- Believe Jordan James must have been injured, when he was withdrawn, the best Leicester outfield player on the day
- Not able to score early on and letting Blackburn into the game
- Missing to many obvious goal chances, not really being clinical enough
