Former Leicester Star Christian Fuchs: Managerial Debut at Newport County

Former Leicester favourite Christian Fuchs has been appointed manager of Newport County. Fuchs (39) will have a tall challenge in his first managerial position ever.

He was previously captain on many occasions for Austria’s national team. He does have a great track record as a player. However, it is still a raw chance to take since Fuchs has no prior managerial experience.

His last appearance in Newport was not one to remember much. The 1-2 FA Cup loss to The Ironsides back in 2019. This was probably not a reason for this surprising appointment.

Christian Fuch left Leicester to join Charlotte FC in MLS. This was in 2021. He stopped on 116 league appearances for Leicester, scoring 2 goals. He made 26 appearances for Charlotte FC, scoring 3 goals. He also had a short loan spell at Charlotte Independence, before leaving to start SFA (Fox Soccer Acedemy).

SFA is his own project. As you all know Fuchs in German is a Fox in English.

Newport do have a problematic situation on their hand. They have Sammy Braybrooke and Nathan Opoku on loan from Leicester. Newport are the bottom team of the table, but still a lot to play for to avoid a relegation.

To see Christian Fuchs back in English football is of course massive. He is a type of person that can become a brilliant manager. Starting in this environment might be a good thing. Hopefully, he knows that it will be a pathway out of these struggles.

Newport announced the appointment on their official website today. We wish the former Leicester player all the luck he can get on his new journey in management.
