Gary Rowett made three changes to his line-up. He surprisingly gave starts to Hamza Choudhury and Jordan Ayew. They replaced Ricardo Pereira and Patson Daka. Jordan James also back in the team, leaving Harry Winks on the bench. No problem to see the inclusion of Jordan James, but still a major gamble from Gary Rowett.

This game was a must win, but from start it was Bristol City who took early advantage. Leicester defender Ben Nelson and Caleb Okoli are getting to know each other, and in some way they manage to have some sort of control.

Having Stephy Mavididi and Abdul Fatawu on the field will create chances and opportunities. Calling on Jordan James from midfield adds to those opportunities. Those three did this from the early minutes. Stephy Mavididi came close first but his attemp is cleverly saved. Then in the 13th minute Leicester gets a free kick just outside the penalty area. Jordan James makes a great pass with the correct foot that finds Ben Nelson perfectly. His header goes in, and Leicester are 1-0 up.

Oliver Skipp has shown over a long period of time that he can do his role as that holding midfielder. Again today, there was brilliant play from the former Spurs man. He blocked and ran effectively. He made some good passes. He demonstrated his worth with a manager who trusts him.

Leicester looked dangerous on the counter attack. In the 24th minute, a great run and fantastic pass from Abdul Fatawu found Stephy Mavididi. His shot, hit the post. Then in the 28th minute it was time for the next major highlight of the game. Bobby De Cordova-Reid missed his shot. Somehow the ball found its way to Abdul Fatawu. He hit it on the volley to pass goalkeeper The Robins, Radek Vitek. Leicester are 2-0 up after 28 minutes.

From then on and into the break Leicester had controll and looked comfortable. Still you can not really understand every action of these Leicester players. Hamza Choudhury again getting a yellow in the 36th minute. A very strange and stupid attack from Choudhury, again being yellowed for a stupid move.

Leicester came out second half with a 2-0 lead and looked as their priority was to defend well. Caleb Okoli again had a solid game and shows his class. Ben Nelson and Luke Thomas are also defending well. However, their actions leave some uncertainty. They are still not to be fully trusted as strange mistakes come to surface with these two at times.

Then after 63 minutes, Ben Nelson makes a silly attempt to stop Emil Rees. Emil Rees is rewarded a penalty. Rees himself steps up to take the penalty. Jacub Stolarczyk reads the action well and makes a great save from a weak penalty. Leicester are still leading 2-0.

Gary Rowett decides to make three changes after 68 minutes. Patson Daka, Harry Winks and Ricardo Pereira comes on for Jordan Ayew, Jordan James and Hamza Choudhury. The game never changes much after this, but it looks a controlled affair. Abdul Fatawu comes close with a couple of shots, but he never manage to score from his good attempts. Divine Mukasa comes on in the 78th minute, replacing Bobby De Cordova-Reid

Joe Aribo comes on for Abdul Fatawu in the final minutes of stoppage time. Leicester manage to win their first game under Gary Rowett. They also kept a clean sheet for the first time since the 0-0 draw vs. Coventry on the 20th of September last year.

A new important game at home vs. QPR coming up next.

  • Positives

    • Gary Rowett finding the blend of players to get a winning result

    • Abdul Fatawu showing his skills and scoring abilty
    • Ben Nelson scoring his first goal of the season
    • Defending is improving
    • Changes from the bench made at the correct time today
  • Negatives
    • Too little possession and too many wrong passes
    • A number of lost duels
    • Jordan Ayew why is he playing in this football team
    • Why not try to build up confidence for one striker, Patson Daka, instead of having two not really working at all
    • Harry Winks is not a player to drop from this team, but do see it can be difficult to play him alongside James and Skipp, but sadly Bobby De Cordova-Reid is picked in front of Winks, strange, but it worked, so all hats of for Gary Rowett
