Jannik Vestergaard announced in April 2026 that he will no longer play for the national team after Denmark failed to qualify for this year’s World Cup.

His total tally of full caps, 59, scoring 3 goals. He made his senior national team debut for Denmark on August 14, 2013, in a friendly match against Poland.

His last game for the Denmark was a UEFA Nations League match against Spain on November 15, 2024. He started and played the full 90 minutes in the 1-2 defeat.

His future at Leicester is also unclear at this point, having a year left on his current deal. The 33 year old has had a strange journey at this football club, being in and out of the first team, based on who has been the manager.

He has made 101 first team league appearances for the Leicester at this point. A trusted player under Enzo Maresca, Marti Cifuentes and Gary Rowett, but frozen out and overlooked by Brendan Rodgers, and Ruud van Nistlerooy.

Kasper Schmeichel has also stepped down from international duty, calling it a day on his full career. Denmark are playing two June friendlies vs. Congo and Ukraine. Former Leicester goalkeeper, Mads Hermansen, named in the squad.

He looked sharp in partnership with Harry Souttar, who was recently named in the Australia squad for this years World Cup.

A number of decisions to be made going forward, but we believe Jannik Vestergaard will stay at the club out his contract, possibly agreeing to a loan move somewhere.
