Russell Martin Appointment Close to Completion as Gary Rowett Waits for Permanent Decision

We believe Gary Rowett has been a backup option for the Leicester City board. He expressed interest in a permanent role during his earlier talks with the club, despite having led the team to a lower division. He would have been considered for the position, if other preferred candidates had declined the opportunity.

We believe Leicester seemed to have their priorities straight, but without confirmation on the situation, they chose to remain silent about Gary Rowett. This makes sense, as it would have been unreasonable to say he was no longer in consideration without having another candidate ready.

In 2023, Leicester appointed Enzo Maresca on the 16th of June. With sources believing, as we wrote three days ago, that the Russell Martin deal was a settled affair, Gary Rowett is clearly out of the picture. But as long nothing is confirmed from the club, nothing is 100%.

From the day Alan Nixon reported on Russell Martin joining Leicester, it appeared to be a done deal, especially with positive comments from sources close to Martin here in Scandinavia. We believe Leicester wanted to finalize this quickly and did not intend to delay. Although Gary Rowett was still in consideration, if the club hadn’t found their candidate by the end of June, they might have pursued Rowett to avoid a prolonged search.

Gary Rowett, will as soon as the Russell Martin appointment is confirmed, be exploring new opportunities. His time at Leicester was brief, with no say in the January transfer window, and he played several matches without key players such as Jordan James and Jannik Vestergaard. They were both crucial in points getting on board, without them it was evident that they were heavily missed.

We think there was an informal agreement between Leicester and Gary Rowett to keep options open until other candidates were fully evaluated. We believe Russell Martin’s appointment will be announced soon, along with news of Gary Rowett’s departure.

We will be reporting on this management appointment of Russell Martin when it is confirmed. We believe this will be a good and major move in the correct direction for this football club. Why we believe that will be described in a long and thorough walkthrough of his career, highlights, low points in earlier jobs and more.

In 1974, Brian Clough was manager of Leeds for 44 days. Last season, Ange Postecoglou was fired after 39 days at Forest. Back in 2016, Marcelo Bielsa walked out after just 2 days at Lazio. So there are many examples of brilliant managers who have had shorter stints in charge, than Russell Martin had at Rangers. Those short affairs, has in no way any relevance to what type of job they could do in other environments.
