Norway has not played in the World Cup in 28 years. Up front they have a very special player in Erling Haaland. So far he has scored 7 goals in 4 games. 2 of them yesterday in the 2-1 win vs. Brazil.

His tally for Norway so far is 62 goals in 54 games. Yesterday he scored 2 fantastic goals. One header and one shot from distance, beating Liverpool’s Alisson twice. The Arsenal defender Gabriel was also losing his battles with the Norwegian phenomena.

In Norway we love to see Erling Haaland scoring goals, and his relations to Leicester are many. Two games so far, three goals scored. He netted twice in his first game vs. Leicester. This was on the 15th of April 2023, Man City winning 3-1. A Premier League fixture, played at The Etihad, Daniel Iversen in goal for Leicester. Patson Daka an unused sub. Daniel Iversen was according to Danish media, “Skutt i Senk”, but rescued by Pep Guardiola, subbing Erling Haaland off after one half.

Patson Daka played with Erling Haaland at RB Salzburg. The two had a great relationship. Build up a partnership that few would have imagined, Leicester signing the Zambian international, Dortmund getting the other. Patson Daka was the top goalscorer in the league with 24 league goals in that first season, Erling Haaland ended on 16, playing 14 league games.

10 years back, when Leicester made the impossible, possible, a young Erling Haaland played for his local team Bryne, At the age of 15, playing for the reserves in the Norwegian fourth tier. This is a fact to look at, as we all know Jeremy Monga made his debut in Premier League at the same age.

In his first full season at level two in Norwegian football, he did not score a single goal, but his goalscoring ratio in Norwegian Youth Internationals, made it clear that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had the desire to bring him to Molde at the age of 16. Erling Haaland progressed and established himself as a goalscorer in the Norwegian top flight.

Erling Haaland joins Man City in the summer of 2022, coming in for a fee of £51,2million from Borussia Dortmund. One of his team mates is Riyad Mahrez. Mahrez becomes one of many important players in the build up of that tally of 52 goals in a total of 53 games. Winning Champions League, Premier League and The FA Cup in Haaland’s first season.

There is no doubt about Erling Haaland and his strong desire to score goals. He has both on and off the field given evidence of his admiration for Jamie Vardy. JV9 has himself talked about how Haaland surprised him with details of one of his goals scored vs. Leicester, saying he had learned from watching Vardy, something that is very true. Erling Haaland is a strong admirer of Jamie Vardy.

One fun fact is that Jamie Vardy and Erling Haaland before they hit the public eye, played in almost the same colours. Bryne and Fleetwood have similar kits.

Next season will be a special one, with the return of Enzo Maresca to Man City. Enzo knows Haaland from his time at The Etihad in the past. He will now be in charge and have him in his team next season. We will hopefully see this relationship in the best way possible.

Divine Mukasa and Callum Doyle are both familier faces for Leicester and Erling Haaland. Doyle with Wrexham at this time, Mukasa still on the books at Man City. He will now be a player to play with one of the most promising youngsters ever to have played for Leicester, Jeremy Monga. Looking forward to that partnership, going forward.

To be Norwegian, supporting Leicester, is not commen, only a few does. So great to see Leicester often giving us credit as we love to follow this club, even at lower levels. Today the Norwegian prince was seen on Karl Johan rowing after the win vs. Brazil. Next up is England, what a thrilling and open affair.

To date the only Norwegian player to have played for Leicester is Kjetil Osvold. Loaned in from Forest in 1987, playing four games. It was a very odd loan spell, having three different managers in a month. The sacked Bryan Hamilton, caretaker Peter Morris and finally the new appointment, David Pleat. One of the greatest memories regarding Kjetil Osvold was his class performance for Norway vs. Argentina in a 1986 friendly, scoring the 1-0 winning goal, nutmegging Diego Maradona, a few months later Argnetina won the World Cup.
