To play at the fifth tier in Norwegian football is a level of amateurs. A number of former greats are down in the basement, and dreaming about a return to something more suitable. One of these clubs are Larvik Turn. They used to be a top tier team in the 1950’s and also a league champion three times during those years.
Larvik Turn has a rich history and has produced notable players like Gunnar Halle, Tom Sundby, Morten Vinje, Hallvar Thoresen, Kristoffer Norman Hansen, and Kornelius Norman Hansen, who have all played or play professionally at high levels, both domestically and internationally.
Ipswich Town and current Premier League player, Sindre Walle Egeli is also a son of the city of Larvik, but has no past at Larvik Turn. His brother Vetle Walle Egeli is currently playing for the neighbour city top elite side Sandefjord Fotball.
Larvik Turn is traveling to England and Leicestershire for a training camp and a friendly match against Barwell FC on Friday, July 31st. Players expressed excitement about the trip and also mentioned plans to go to the pub for beer.
Barwell FC, nicknamed The Canaries, is a club playing in yellow and green, competing in the Northern Premier League, Division One Midlands. This is the 7th to 8th tier of English football.
They believe in forming a strong bond to face a challenging second part of the season. Having a beer or two is fine; we in Norway see it as socializing, and it should be accepted, especially at the 5th tier.
Larvik Turn are currently 2nd in the 4th Division, 3 points behind Flint. Nice to see them at least fighting for promotion to a higher level, as this club with so much tradition should be at a higher shelf.

You also have other clubs from this district, closest are local city rivals Fram Larvik. Another club with a long and proud history, being a top team in the 1930’s and also said to be the oldest club in Norwegian football still in trade. Fram are currently struggling in the 3rd Division, the 4th tier.
Larvik and their local area have a number of different football clubs at lower league levels. Nesjar, Stag, Halsen, Tjølling, Nanset, Kvelde/Svarstad and Hedrum/Sporty are all clubs based in the city or close neighbourhood of Larvik.
Nice to see Larvik Turn visiting Leicestershire to play this local team. Wishing them the best for the game and the season, with hopes for a higher position in the Norwegian league in some years.
On fun fact to mention is that back in 1970’s, Larvik Turn also played The Canaries, then “Turn” played in the 2nd tier of Norwegian football and hosted Norwich City. A packed home stadium (Lovisenlund) in heavy rain, is a special memory in the clubs history.
