Nathan Opoku has been part of the pre-season preperations, returning from a successful season on loan at Newport. Playing well under former Leicester defender Christian Fuchs at Rodney Parade.
He has been involved in pre-season games, scoring 2 goals in his 3 appearances, playing one half in each of the games. We do know Opoku has struggled with injuries and did not travel to the training camp in Spain, but why he isn’t even mentioned as an option this season, indicates that he is either overlooked or forgotten.
To see Bobby De Cordova-Reid being talked up as an alternative forward is shocking, Russell Martin not even mentioning Nathan Opoku in the talk of strikers options, shows the worth of this player in the managers mind.
Nathan Opoku looks to be overlooked and forgotten. That is in real a shocking situation, because he is a proper attackng force, and his ability to play up front, is far better than Bobby De Cordova-Reid.
Watching all pre-season games and every minute of Nathan Opoku’s performances, this comes as a huge surprise, Russell Martin overlooking him and forgetting him, even after been given the shirtnumber 42.

Nathan Opoku played Belgian top flight football with OH Leuven, scoring 5 goals in 27 games. He scored 6 last season on loan at Newport, completing 30 league games in League Two.
There were some rumours he could be sold, but surely watching him play, he looks a very good option at League One level.
This is just strange and sad news, after Leicester last season decided to give the player a new deal. Not really understadning the priority thoughts in this situation.
Opoku played today in the U21 Premier League Cup game vs. Plymouth Argyle, assisting Michael Golding for his goal. Leicester winners, 3-1. This shows that he might be on his way somewhere else, strange when you consider Bobby De Cordova-Reid as a top striker option, even Liam Cullen is far from the quality of Opoku in this role.
