Arjen Robben clone on Leicester radar, Leeds and Real Sociedad also keen

Josip Brekalo is a player that has risen on the transfer barometer as the days are heading towards a certain deadline. The winger is currently under contract with German club Wolfsburg and the 23 year old former Dinamo Zagreb player had an impressive Euro’s campaign with his nation Croatia.

He has often been compared to Arjen Robben, who at some point was linked with Leicester before moving back to his former club Groningen and from there later gone into football retirement. He could also be a player similar to Cengiz Under, a dribbler, lively and with good technique.

TCF believe that the priority will be to find a player that could be an alternative on the wing, and a player adaptable to play in a three up front and even a flank role in midfield, though cannot see use of Brekalo in a three, five, two system. If Brendan Rodgers do decide to go further with his experiments then playing Brekalo up front in a more free role with a diamond midfield and a three men defence, then he could be an exciting alternative.

With Wolfsburg and for Croatia he operated in a left wide position with two sitting midfielders in a 4-5-1 set up. At Wolfsburg he can be at both sides and often set up to the right to go into the field, and he is adaptable.

The fee suggested as a possible figure is £12million and it could be a much better alternative than trying to win a move for Philippe Coutino. Leicester are also linked with other wide alternatives such as Matheus Pereira, Daniel James and Noni Madueke.

Brekalo would be interesting but with previous flank players signed from abroad, it might be a risk with this one as well, hopefully new players can adapt and contribute. Brekalo is still a young player but as we have to remember Premier League is a different animal.
