Brentford has impressed a lot this season and one key reason for that is their central defender Ben Mee, signed on a free from Burnley, overlooked by Leicester as The Bees convinced the former England U.21 international to sign for them.
Mee has been a talisman for Brentford this season and his grand experience from Premier League has been vital in Brentford’s race this season, being 9th at the moment and in close range to positions above.
In a recent interview at Brentford, he tells his story from the massive 2-1 away win vs. Man City, and how to keep Erling Haaland quiet, as the Norwegian not scoring in this game.
He reveals that you need to be very physical and not be affraid to give punches back, and says that Erling Haaland pinch you during games, and of course one move to try to get other players out of balance, but Mee was not affected as he gave back and also kept Haaland quiet for 90 minutes.
Leicester struggled heavily with Haaland in the game on Saturday, as he scored twice and just left the field after first half, Man City being 3-0 up. To see a team Leicester have two draws against twice this season, get such a result at The Etihad, shows that it is possible to get wins if you have the correct attitude.
Ben Mee played 15 league games for Leicester in 2011, but it was not something that the club build on to try to bring Ben Mee in on a permanent deal, but instead he made his move from Man City to Burnley shortly after, also spending his first period on loan at Turf Moor.
Ben Mee played alongside Michael Keane and James Tarkowski on most of his games for Burnley and had Sean Dyche as his manager, but still has not made it to the full international schene, something his partners in defense has done, but at Everton at the moment.
Ben Mee is a player that seldom gets the headlines and he could have been a full international, but at 33, his chance to get a cap looks faded, but this season, might be one of the best in his position.
