There are changes in all departments at the football club, in the women and mens first teams as well as male U.18 and U.21. U.18 will be competing in the top tier next season, ending 9th in their division this term. The U.21’s were relegated to the 2nd tier.
The balance between loans out of development players and what is left to use in the set up for U.21 games must be in correct shape, as Ben Petty and Adam Barradell prepare for next season.
We have seen progress among a number of players, but still the U.21 team had to see themselves relegated, of course a disappointment. Tawanda Maswanhise is one with a grand growth, surprisingly not being given a chance in the first team, another with good progress is Sammy Braybrooke, both can be first team players next season and hopefully will prograss from the development team and follow the likes of Ben Chilwell, Daniel Iversen, Harvey Barnes, Luke Thomas and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall as well as Hamza Choudhury, to just name a few of the players that has pushed for a first team position, coming up from the youth ranks.
We also should keep eyes on Joe Wormleighton, who looks a grand prospect, not to forget Ireland U.21 international Shane Flynn. There are talents in there, but still a way to become first team alternatives.
Leicester have added 14 year old goalkeeper Freddie Marson, coming in from Mansfield. A bit left to become a first team player, but we all remember a certain Peter Shilton, getting his debut at 16, and in goal for the FA Cup final i 1969, age 19, so never underestimate anyone in life.
Ryan Donnelly is a new recruit from N Ireland, firstly seen as a player for the U.18 team as the 16 year old hopefully will adapt and settle in. A young midfielder with a vision and talent that hopefully can flourish in the Leicester acadamy.
Leicester’s development players finished the season with a tournament in Thailand. The HKFC Citi Soccer Sevens was the name of the arrangement. Leicester reached the final, losing 2-1 to Newcastle. Deniche Hill scored the goal, as the Bermuda international, gained valuable experience together with the other players in action.
Leicester had the following players on show, Deniche Hill, Brad Young (GK), Kasey McAteer, Joe Wormleighton, Wanya Marcal-Madivadua, Tawanda Maswanhise, Harvey Godsmark-Ford, Lewis Brunt, Brandon Cover, Kian Pennant.
The future of other development players such as Paul Appiah, Bayli Spencer-Adams, Iestyn Hughes, Khanya Leshabela, Ethan Fitzhugh, Shane Flynn and Chris Popov might be a bit unsecure as none of them were part of this last tournament and could be on the move out or moving out on loan.
Josh Eppiah also looks to be leaving the club spending the last two seasons out on loan. He has spent the two last seasons on loan at Northampton, but not been a regular in their team.
So far no news has been given regarding the development and academy team retained lists.
