Leicester are in the middle of a rebuild as pre-season has started with uncertainty about the squad and a first Enzo Maresca press conference to report from. The return today did see a lot of players missing, as many have been out on international duty, so a bit of space in the canteen.
Harvey Barnes was one of the players coming back after his summer holliday, but still there are rumours about him leaving, and that is so sad to see, would have hoped he could stay, he will be difficult to replace and also a player from the clubs own ranks, so important to keep them on.
The move looks a bit up in the air, as many believed he would have signed for Aston Villa after he was strongly linked with a move earlier on, but that has not happened and as we have seen lately, West Ham showing much interest with Newcastle also said to be in the mix.
Danny Ings and Allan Saint-Maximin are two players that could potentially become part of a deal if an when that move happens, as the two are players that would be seen as casualties when the season kicks off at Premier League level, both being a bit on the fringe last season.
To come to Leicester would be a great move for both and even if Harvey Barnes decides West Ham, Allan Saint- Maximin and Danny Ings both could be heading to Leicester, since both Patson Daka and Kelechi Iheanacho are rumoured to be in line for a move out as well.
A player that is believed to have been offered a chance to stay on is Jonny Evans, and we certainly hope he will set pen to paper to return to the club, but still no decision made.
The press conference today did not really give any answers as Enzo Maresca made it difficult to understand much of what his thoughts were, blocking every question with little or no answers of anything really. No direct answers to any of the questions so that gave no clues at all what to expect for the next two or three weeks.
At this point two new players have arrived, we still have Harvey Barnes, who is back in pre-season training and could be so for a while, and we have no real indication of any more moves in, with the latest rumours are around two Man City youngsters, goalkeeper Jason Trafford and defender Callum Doyle.
The squad at this point looks the following;
Goalkeepers:
Daniel Iversen, Danny Ward, Jakub Stolarczyk, Alex Smithies
Defenders:
Ricardo Pereira, Timothy Castagne, Luke Thomas, James Justin, Harry Souttar, Wout Faes, Conor Coady, Jannik Vestergaard, Lewis Brunt, Victor Kristiansen
Midfield:
Harry Winks, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Wilfred Ndidi, Dennis Praet, Bouba Soumare, Hamza Choudhury, Kasey McAteer
Forwards:
Marc Albrighton, Patson Daka, Jamie Vardy, Kelechi Iheanacho, Harvey Barnes, George Hirst
This squad looks amazing at this point, but affraid a few will move on and hopefully the players coming in will give enough power to keep it competitive to get a straight promotion from this division
