Mads Hermansen (23) is getting closer and closer to his full international debut, cementing a place in the Denmark squad as they looks closer to the Euro finals in Germany next summer. In the recent embarrassing performance vs. San Marino, having heavy problems defeating the mini nation, Kasper Schmeichel felt the pressure.
Mads Hermansen has been in fantastic form for Leicester City keeping balance and with fine touch been able to play out from the back and looks as one to keep for a long long time as the first team goalkeeper at the club.
Danish chief coach Kasper Hjulmand will need to see Mads Hermansen in international action before and if Denmark reach the Euro in Germany next summer, as we believe that Kasper Schmeichel is far from certain to keep the gloves forever, with him having problems to adapt to a more modern game.
Kasper Schmeichel played his 97th full international game vs. San Marino and is undoubtly still the man to call on, but as the 36 year old, turning 37 on the November 5th, are coming to a an age when you start to think about possible retirements, at least from international football, the Leicester City goalkeeper looks to be next in line.
There are three or four other goalkeepers in contention for the job. Daniel Iversen, during his days at Preston, was called up to the full squad. Alongside Schmeichel and Hermansen at present you have 31 year old Frederik Rønnow, playing in Bundesliga for Union Berlin. Two other goalkeeper to count are Filip Jørgensen, currently with Villareal and Fiorentina shotstopper Oliver Christensen.
We could see a man under pressure as the Danes came close to a massive banana skin experience, screaming at a ball boy, but luckily Yussuf Poulsen, playing at club RB Leipzig, scored as a 2-1 win was secured as this stumbling and negative performance came to an end.
Denmark will play Slovenia (H) and N Ireland (A) in their two last games in the qualification taking place on the 17th and the 20th of November. One win should see them through and then surely Mads Hermansen will be part of the Denmark squad next summer in Germany, but also a major challenger for Kasper Schmeichel as the experienced goalkeeper needs good and solid performances to be certain to continue as Denmark number one.
