My home town Marti used a fox to outfox Enzo Maresca as his Queens Park Rangers defeats Leicester 2-1 away

Leicester is seen as the best team in the Championship still top of the table, despite being defeated in their last three games in the league. Strange to see Queens Park Rangers manager Marti Cifuentes at King Power Stadium as he left my Norwegian home town club Sandefjord in 2020, being the coach of SF from 2018.

Today of course looking forward to the game as a local came head to head with Leicester, my favourite team of football in any class. To see Marti on the sideline coaching Queens Park Rangers in a game against Leicester and also winning, was a very surreal happening.

Despite being a Leicester fan, actually loved to see how Marti managed to use a fox to outfox Enzo Maresca, as he did the trick needed to win this game of football. Listening to Maresca before the game, he told us all that Marti had changed QPR completely and were playing with possession and an attacking style, but our little magician from the past have a pragmatic approach to football, playing his team to a strict plan and using his chances to score, and of course a bit of luck, but still his route to english football has not been out of luck.

So to see him bring on Morgan Fox as a 72nd minute substitution to rescue his mission, taking off a midfielder, made the day complete, getting help from the tall defender, last on the field in a 1-1 draw vs. Huddersfield on the 28th of January. Fox (30) has not played in a great number of the club’s Championship matches in 2023/2024, making 12 appearances overall and playing 746 minutes. He has started in nine of these appearances across their 35 fixtures and come on as a substitute on three occasions.

Sad to see Leicester being defeated and surely would have loved them to win, but on a day like this, still proud to see how far Marti Sifuentes has come on his route towards top football management. Marti has previously worked in the academies of Millwall and Ajax, but still far from being the main man at a football club as he has been at the highest level in Norway (Sandefjord), Sweden (Hammarby) and Denmark (Aalborg), before taking the job at Queens Park Rangers.
