As we expected, Russell Martin is now the new manager at Leicester. This decision is controversial and hard to accept for some Leicester fans.
Martin (40) is a young football manager with experience. He has also a good backround as a player having played internationally for Scotland and at a high level with Norwich.
The club’s appointment of a manager at this point is a significant positive. He will have time to build a foundation and assemble his desired squad for the season.
At this point, there are no first team staff appointed. Martin says he will go “straight to work,” and hopefully soon we know who will be working with him around the first team.
Callum Davidson left with Gary Rowett. The other first team staff members under Rowett, Adam Sadler, Andy King, and Andrew Hughes, are still with the club. Hughes is currently with Scotland in the World Cup, while King and Sadler are important and expected to stay.
There is talk of former Barnsley manager Conor Hourihane joining as Russell Martin’s assistant manager. Another name mentioned is Matt Gill, who is currently with West Bromwich but has previously been part of Russell Martin’s coaching staff.

This appointment is crucial for Russell Martin and for Leicester as they need to escape this division and return to the EFL Championship as fast as possible.
He is a manager with a broad perspective, having learned from this level both as a player and a manager. He possesses all the qualities needed to excel in this role.
This situation could be worse, but the appointment is controversial, and he won’t have much time from Leicester fans. The expectations will be similar to his time at Rangers, as the pressure is to win every week and quickly return to a higher level.
Leicester have allready scheduled three pre-season frindlies. They will play Northampton, Burton and Bristol Rovers as part of their pre-season campaign.
