Struggle continues for Leicester u.21 as little or no momentum in team selection makes it hard to get results

Leicester u.21 are in no way at a level we would like them to be, again being defeated, this time vs. Crystal Palace. This 2-3 cup defeat is another setback for Ben Petty and his project.

Looking at the academy in perspective, we have seen a number of players coming through over recent years with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Luke Thomas, Kasey McAteer, Harvey Barnes and Ben Chilwell as the major players to take the next step.

Ben Nelson, Will Alves, Brandon Cover, Arjan Raikhy, Marcal Madivadu, Logan Briggs, Silko Thomas are players who have been in and around the first team this season. Lewis Brunt, Paul Appiah and Zach Booth are others, out on loan at Mansfield, Maidstone and Volendham.

The major question is how to build a competitive team structure that will bring more wins to the table in league and cup game, as well as being able to compete in the EFL trophy competition, seeing heavy defeats this season vs. Wigan (1-7) and Fleetwood (0-4).

Looking at this seasons set up, we had hopes for progress, with players becoming a year older, and hopefully getting more wins on board. Leicester are at this point 22 of 24 in the new league set up, struggling to get a momentum and not has not won a game in the league since September.

Being a player in a set-up with a lot of rotation and little or no momentum, makes it difficult to get some sort of winning culture on board and priorities are probably not on this team at all, giving Ben Petty a major problem regarding team selection. There are also very few over aged players to call on, one exception, in the 1-1 draw at home to Crystal Palace, fielding Danny Ward in goal. Last season Jannik Vestergaard made an appearance, but still not much of a priority for this group of players.

Of course there are talented players in this set up, players on youth international level, but still not enough quality to build a winning formula and climbing up and into a level we would hope was possible, but the amount of defeats against proper opposition, makes it all very difficult.
