Sustained only by the memories of one and a bit senior games for City over almost three years. Probably haunted by recall of a missed “sitter” on his brief debut appearance. The rangy striker might have been forgiven for feeling he was on his way out when loaned to Doncaster at the beginning of the 1974/75 season.

A decent run League football re invigorated his play, and a two goal City comebac at Loftus Road on Boxing Day 1974 eased him into a regular support role to Frank Worthington and Chris Garland. Inf fact, Bob himself headed City’s scoring list in 1975/76 as he began to make his powerful physique pay dividends in opposing penalty areas.

In Norway and for Scandinavian Leicester fans, he is fondly remembered for scoring three goals in a 4-1 win against Odd Skien in a friendly match on May 17, 1976.

He was soon off to Sunderland in a £200.000 deal being the alternative for a failed attempt to sigin Frank Worthington. He played through relegation seasons for both Sunderland and Bristol Rovers and also experencing promotion with Carlisle.

Bob Lee had his proudest moment in non-league football virtually ending his career at Wembley after scroing two semi-final goals to take Boston United to the FA Trophy Final in 1985.

Later in life, he ran a pub in Loughborough.
