Kasper Schmeichel looks to have decided to join Celtic and having his reunion with Brendan Rodgers. He will then replace Joe Hart, who decided to retire after last season, funnily enough both had a life at Man City and it was Hart winning the battle with Schmeichel for the goalkeeper job at the time, seeing Kasper moving around to different destinations, finally ending up at Leicester in 2011, being the first choice for so many seasons and during that time winning the FA Cup and Premier League titles. He left Leicester for Nice in the summer of 2022, moving to Anderlecht in 2023, and looks to continue his career at Celtic in the next.
Shane Flynn was not offered a future life at Leicester, leaving the club after 6 years at the acedemy and later in the development squad, previously been U.18 player of the season and also having a taste of first team appearance, being named on the bench on occasions. After his release the Ireland U.21 international decided to join Irish club Waterford FC. The 22-year-old made 48 appearances for Leicester City’s Premier League 2 side, along with over 20 games in the U18 Premier League with the Leicester academy.
Dennis Praet is a free agent and not yet made a decision on his future, with his former club Anderlecht being linked with a move. Not much seen of other rumours but we believe Serie A club Torino will be looking for his services, spending time on loan at the club in the 2021-22 season. Praet joined Leicester in 2019 for fee of €20 million, played in total 107 official games, scoring 5 goals. Still only 30 years of age and a player not really getting his career flying at Leicester, as his football might be more adaptable in Italy or Belgium.
Kelechi Iheanacho is also seen in the rumour mill, being seen as a possible new man for West Ham. Aston Villa and Wolves are other clubs seen as possible destinations for the Nigerian international. Still only 27 years of age and one that opted to become a free agent this summer, coming to Leicester from Man City in 2017, playing a total of 232 official games, scoring 61 goals.
Former Leicester defender Richard Stearman has at the age of 36, turning 37 in August, made a decision to retire as a player after dropping into non-league football last season. He joined Solihull Moors for a season, playing 27 league games. He left Leicester in 2008 to join Wolves. He has since leaving Wolves in 2015, been around playing at a number of places such as Fulham, Huddersfield, Derby and Sheffield United, even having a return to Molineux on loan as well as being at Ipswich also on loan.
Another former player, Anthony Knockaert, has also said goodbye to the professional game, being on the move to Belgian lower league club Mouscron. Knockeart was a fan favourite at Leicester, playing at the club from 2012 to 2015, a total of 106 official games, scoring 16 goals. He joined from French club Guingamp, having also played for Brighton, Fulham, Standard Liege, Volos, Huddersfield and Forest, before playing his last period in professional football with French club Valenciennes.
Jeffrey Schlupp has put pen to paper on a new deal at Crystal Palace. Schlupp (31) has agreed on a one year extension. To date he has played 231 official games for The Eagles, scoring 19 goals. A previous Premier League winner at Leicester, being sold in January 2017 for a fee of £12million. Born in Hamburg, Germany by Ghanian parents he decided to play for Ghana and has to date 20 caps. He decided in 2021 to retire from the international game to concentrate on his career at Selhurst Park.
Nottingham Forest is said to have offered Chris Wood a new one year extension to his current deal at City Ground. Nothing yet confirmed if he decides to put pen to paper or will like to look at other options available, and rumoured to be considering a reunion with Steve Cooper at Leicester, if that becomes an option.
Cesare Casadei, Callum Doyle and Yunus Akgun all played on loan at Leicester last season, and so far they look to be staying at their clubs, Chelsea (CC), Man City (CD) and Galatasaray (YA). Akgun has just finished the Euro 2024, being involved with Turkey, playing in one of the games, vs. Portugal.
Johnny Evans finished last season with Man Utd as a FA Cup winner, coming on in the latter stages of that fantastic win vs. Man City. He has been rewarded with a one year extension to his deal, moving back to Old Trafford in front of last season. This season appearing in 30 official games for Man Utd. He finished of at Leicester with only 14 official appearances in his final season. Impressive to see him deliver as he does, knowing how much he contributed in previous seasons at Leicester, playing 152 league games and scoring 7 goals in total.
Another released player this summer is Tawanda Maswanhise, currently on a trial at Stockport County. He has impressed in pre-season, recently scoring a hat-trick in a b-team match. He made his full first team debut under Enzo Maresca last season, coming on as a sub, and is it looks another of the so called one game wonders at the club. Maswanhise (21) made his full international debut for Zimbabwe earlier in the year and so far taken his cap tally to 3.
Ahmed Musa was earlier in the year released from his duties at Sivasspor. He is at the moment a free agent, and also considering his future with the national team, being part of the AFCON squad, but since not featured and talking to Legit, calling it all a break. What will be the next destination for the former Leicester player is a bit in the blue, still only 31 years of age.
Former Leicester goalkeeper Ben Hamer has made a switch from Watford to Sheffield Wednesday. The experienced 36 year old shot stopper played 20 league games for The Hornets in a two year stay. His time at Leicester was between 2014 and 2018, playing in total 12 league games, spending time on loan at Forest and Bristol City. Joined Leicester from Charlton, also been at Huddersfield, Swansea, Derby, Exeter, Brentford and Crawley during his long lasting career in English football.
Andy King retired as a player after last season, and from what has been written, he also looks to end his coaching relations with Bristol City. King will be followed out the door by another Ex Leicester man, Matty James, who is a free agent and looking for a new club, certainly being attractive with a good last season at Ashton Gate. It was suggested early on that he could remain with The Robins, but not yet any confirmation about his prefered destination, clearly a player that will continue to play.
Kyle Naughton has extended his deal with Swansea as the defender will stay on until the end of next season. He has been with the Welsh club since 2015, added up 277 league games and scored 5 goals. Lee Peltier was not offered a new deal at Rotherham, and at the moment a free agent. Ryan Bertrand has decided to hang up his boots, leaving after last season, having injury issues and being out for a year, seeing Leicester becoming his last club in football. The former Chelsea and England defender played 4 league games in a two year stay.
Tyrese Shade, at Swindon until the end of the season, has joined Eastleigh in the National League. Shade (24) has experience from the level being on loan at Solihull Moors last season, playing 12 games and scoring 2 goals. Shade joined Swindon two years ago, playing 63 league games and scoring 6 goals. Before his move to County Ground he had a loan spell at Walsall.
