Football Managers: New Roles and Departures for Ex Leicester men

Alan Sheehan is in interim charge at Swansea. He is in his second spell doing this job at The Swans. He has recently also added Richard Stearman to his coaching staff. Stearman and Sheehan played together at Leicester during their days in football.

Richie Wellens is a division below, having the managers job at Leyton Orient. Wellens played for Leicester from 2009 to 2013, adding up a total of 125 league games. He has been with The O’s for over three years. Wellens is among the longest serving managers in the top four tiers in English football.

Tom Cleverly is in charge of Watford. He has been The Hornets manager since March 2024. First he was in interim charge before getting the job permanent. Cleverley finished his playing career at Vicarage Road, then had coaching duties at the club. He played for Leicester in the 2008/09 season on loan from Man Utd.

Ian Holloway is now in charge of Swindon. He returned to management after four years out, leaving Grimsby in 2020. Holloway had a dreadful few months in charge at Leicester, seeing the team relegated to League One.

Neil Lennon has recently returned to management to take over at Dunfirmline Athletic. He has a past from doing this job up in Scotland at Celtic (twice) and Hibernian. Lennon played for Leicester from 1996 to 2000.

Gary Rowett returned to management this season to take over at Oxford United. He has a long life in football. He has managed clubs such as Burton, Birmingham, Millwall, Stoke, and Derby in the past.

Mark Robins was sacked as manager of Coventry early in the season. He returned to management to take over Stoke shortly after. Robins played for Leicester from 1995 to 1998, adding up a total of 56 league games, scoring 12 goals.

Steve Cotterill had a short stint at Leicester as a member of the coaching staff. This was when Harry Bassett and Micky Adams were in charge. He has since leaving Leicester been at several league clubs as manager. He is now in charge of Forest Green Rovers in NFL 1.

Brendan Rodgers is the current manager for Celtic. His success up north is well documented as he has a massive trophy hunt and good results as clear documentation. Rodgers also had a team impressing in Champions League this season with a number of great results.

Former Leicester defender Alan Maybury is manager of Stirling Albion. He played 102 league and cup games for Leicester. This was during a three-year period from 2005 to 2008. He was manager of Edinburgh City before his time with The Binos.

Former Leicester loan goalkeeper David Stockdale is the current manager of National League North club Farsley Celtic. Stockdale was one of many different goalkeepers used in the 2008-09 League One winning season.

Claudio Ranieri left Leicester in February 2017. The 73 year old maestro has since made his journey around in Europe. At present he is in charge of Roma.

Dean Smith had an interim manager position at Leicester. He came in after Brendan Rodgers. He is currently in charge of MLS club Charlotte FC. Enzo Maresca had a season at Leicester and at present in charge of Chelsea.

Roberto Mancini who we all know from a short spell at Leicester during the days of Peter Taylor. He has since moving been in charge of Fiorentina, Lazio, Inter, Zenit, Italy, Saudi Arabia and Man City. He is currently not in management.

Chris Davies is the manager of Birmingham City. He has before been part of the coaching staff at Leicester during the days of Brendan Rodgers. Colin Appleton has recently taken over at Shrewsbury Town.
