In Both Camps; Oxford United

Oxford United are currently playing in the Championship. Former fox Gary Rowett is their manager. Last season Ben Nelson was loaned out to The O’s. He played 17 league games. It was a successful campaign. They managed to stay up and continue their time in tier two.

Elliott Moore is the current captain of Oxford. Strange to see him leave without being tested properly at first team level for Leicester. He had a spell at OH Leuven before moving to Oxford. The former England U.20 international has played a total of 199 league games and scored 10 goals while at The Kassam.

David Langan and Malcolm Shotton are two players that are remembered fondly at Oxford. Their spells with Leicester were shortlived and not much noticed. Shotton left early, without being tested at first team level. Langan had a short and brief spell after his time at Oxford.

Trevor Hebberd had a brief loan spell at Leicester. He joined Oxford from Southampton later on. He became an icon for this club. He played a total of 260 league games and scored 37 goals. Hebberd played for Oxford from 1982 to 1988.

Martin O’Neill signed both Matt Elliott and Phil Gilchrist from Oxford. Both had been solid defender and performed consistently, adding up a good number of games before making their move to Leicester. Elliott joined Leicester in 1997 for a fee of £1,6million. Gilchrist joined Leicester in 1999, for fee of £0,5million. He later returned to Oxford for a second spell.

Former Leicester coach Ray Graydon is a previous player at Oxford. He joined the club after his time at Coventry and Aston Villa. Michael Appleton also have a life in both camps. He has been the manager of Oxford. He also served as the interim manager at Leicester between Craig Shakespeare and Claude Puel.

Gerry Summers is one to have had a life in both camps as well. Summers acted as player coach and manager at Oxford between 1969 and 1976. He laster became assistant manager at Leicester under Gordon Milne. Derek Fazackerley, David Oldfield and Malcolm Shotton have also acted as caretaker managers for The O’s.
