Still no confirmation from the club regarding the next manager. Gary O’Neil sailed up as a favourite yesterday with Chris Wilder being tipped as a good runners-up. Danny Rohl and Sean Dyche were at the time drifting, and no longer seen as potential candidates.
Today Marti Cifuentes is seen as the favourite to land the job. Earlier, sources had only mentioned him briefly. We mentioned him as a potential candidate back in April. He was seen as someone to call. He is available after leaving Queens Park Rangers last season.
Yesterday we made a presentation of Gary O’Neil and what he could bring to the table. Today we are presenting Marti Cifuentes. Chris Wilder could of course also be given a presentation, but we are leaving it out for now.
To see Marti Cifuentes being a frontrunner for this job is a bit surreal. He is 43 years old. He is a fighter. He has a reputation of having no fear. He gives young players a chance. He is also one having his own ideas, and not a yes man, not at all.
He left my local club back here in Norway to join Aalborg. He did a fantastic job at Sandefjord Fotball. He took them up, kept them up on a shoestring budget. He played young players and built on the academy. He also have a past from growing up in Barcelona and working at Ajax, being at their academy as a coach. He can see how to nurse talent into a first team.

Marti Cifuenties is a choice in line with the type of football we did see under Enzo Maresca. Watching his Sandefjord Fotball team in every game. He is not easy to read. He adapted his play to bring points on board. He has done this at all his clubs. He play in a 4-3-3 structure, having a 4-2-3-1 set up. He is practical and has experience from teams in different challenges, so he could, if getting Leicester up, be one to test at a higher level.
Cifuentes would be a wildcard and one that could look at Leicester as a step towards the next level. He has routine and experience to take this job. He works a bit independently. He is building his staff with people who are already at the club. At Sandefjord, he had a legendary player from the club among his assistants. The same could happen at Leicester, having Andy King as a potential coaching assistant.
We will wait and see what Leicester do regarding their manager appointment. At this moment we have no direct clue. The Leicester fanbase seems to be positive towards Marti Cifuenties.
Will be interesting to see what will be the next news in this management saga. We will have to wait for the results. Hopefully, we will reach some sort of clearance in the coming days.
