European Teams Announce Squads for Friendlies and World Cup Qualifiers, Current and Ex Leicester Players Called Up

Jordan James is in the Wales squad for the friendly match vs. England and the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification match against Belgium on 9 and 13 October. Chris Popov is named in the Wales U21 squad for the 2027 UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualification Group I match against Belgium and Austria on 10 and 14 October.

Wout Faes was again left out of the Belgian squad for their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against North Macedonia and Wales on 10 and 13 October. Timothy Castagne is in the squad, Youri Tielemans is out injured.

Jannik Vestergaard is in the Denmark squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification – UEFA Group C matches against Belarus and Greece on 9 and 12 October. Mads Hermansen and Kasper Schmeichel are also both included. No place for Victor Kristiansen or Daniel Iversen.

No place for Ben Nelson in the England U21 squad for qualifying games against Moldova and Andorra, played on 10 and 13 October. Jeremy Monga is named in the England U19 squad for the friendly matches against Belgium and Wales on 11 and 14 October. Louis Page is in the England U18 squad for two games against France, to be played 9 and 12 October. Olabade Aluko is in the England U20 squad for their friendly vs. Switzerland on the 10th of October.

Ghana have called up Abdul Fatawu and Jordan Ayew for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification matches against Central African Republic and Comoros on 6 and 10 October.

Three former Leicester players in the Nigeria squad for their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification – CAF Group C matches against Lesotho and Benin on 10 and 14 October. Ademola Lookman, Wilfred Ndidi and Calvin Bassey are all in the squad. Kelechi Iheanacho is not in the squad.

Ryan Donnolly is named in the Northern Ireland U21 squad for the 2027 UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualification Group F matches against Malta and Germany on the 9 and 14 October.

Kasey McAteer is in the Ireland squad for their 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualification fixtures against Portugal and Armenia on 11 and 14 October 2025.

No place for Jakub Stolarczyk as former Leicester man Bartosz Kapustka makes the Poland squad for their friendly match against New Zealand and a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification match against Lithuania on 9 and 12 October 2025.

Bobby De Cordova-Reid is in the Jamaica squad for their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification – CONCACAF third round matches against Curaçao and Bermuda on 10 and 14 October. Brendan Cover missed out. Former Leicester player and Birmingham attacker Demarai Gray is in.

Caglar Soyuncu and Yanus Akgun are in the Turkey squad for their World Cup Qualifiers vs. Bulgaria and Georgia on the 11 and 14 October. Hamza Choudhury included for Bangladesh for their fixture vs. Hong Kong.

Bilal El Khannouss is in the Morocco squad for their friendly match against Bahrain and a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification match against Congo on 9 and 14 October. Woyo Coulibaly was called up by Mali for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification – CAF Group I matches against Chad and Madagascar on 8 and 12 October.
