Watching the full aniversery game yesterday, one previous Leicester player impressed. Danny Drinkwater, made a quality performance. Nine years ago sold from Leicester to Chelsea for a fee of £35million. He is 36 years of age and that is not at all a tall age in todays game.

Danny Drinkwater got tired of football and decided to quit the game in full, four years ago. He spent his last season in play for Reading at EFL Championship level.

This is not the first time Danny Drinkwater is back in a Leicester shirt. He was part of the winning side in the Singapore Soccer 7s Series Masters Cup, in July last year.

Looking at the 2026 World Cup and the players involved, you have several of them in and around the age of 36, with players like Luca Modric and Cristiano Ronaldo above 40. A fun fact is of course that DD is three years younger than Jamie Vardy.

A dream would be to have him back in the centre of this Leicester midfield, but being absent from the game for almost four years, would surely give him a hell of a pre-season, if he decided to play again.

This was a show game, but still you start to wonder why major stars of football decides to step down from this, if they can still go on.

Nice to see Danny Drinkwater back at King Power Stadium. He showed he’s fit and ready for a challenge. He could have been a great player at any level, but he might not be interested in the rest of the life that involves being a professional footballer.
