All hopes were high in a packed stadium with 29,389 spectators. Robbie Savage was in charge of his first league match for Peterborough, and his team quickly took control, pressing Leicester from the start.

Strangely both Harry Souttar and Sammy Braybrooke were left out of the team, both players having a lot of trust over the first games, and another random pick today. This looked far from organized with a lot of uncertainty in the starting minutes.

McCarthy in goal, Aluko on the right in defence, Thomas to the left, Okoli and O’Hora in the middle. Lundstram, BDCR and Page in midfield, Riis, Cullen and Alves up front. This team lacked balance, Aluko and BDCR struggling, both looking very uncomfortable. Lundstram was also taken out by the Peterborough midfielders, seeing Robbie Savage having made his homework before his first game.

In football you need to fight, and win the one to one battles, if you ignore that element, you will be punished as Leicester were told a hard lesson after only 12 minutes. Goal! Leicester City 0, Peterborough United 1. Owura Edwards right footed shot from the left side of the box to the bottom right corner. Assisted by the best player on the field, Harley Mills, following a fast break.

Coming under with that goal, made it difficult for Leicester, not really having the tools to fix it, despite some attempts, but it looked far from settled, with runs and passes not really in balance, having that tension we do not see if a team is full of confidence. To play BDCR and leave out Sammy Braybrooke in midfield, is close to a suicide act, as it shows how problematic this has become.

Leicester has some attempts, but no clear chances. Emil Riis had the best opportunity but couldn’t score. Peterborough then makes a counterattack, putting pressure on Leicester. Harry Leonard scores with a right-footed shot from the center of the box, assisted by Bolu Shofowoke after a quick break. Leicester are 0-2 down after 36 minutes.

Robbie Savage’s guidance helped his players dominate Leicester with strong counterattacks and a determined attitude, which led to Warren O’Hora scoring an own goal after 44 minutes. Although there was discussion about a possible foul, it was not called, leaving Leicester trailing 0-3 at halftime, a situation that highlights massive errors in the line-up and how certain players are far from the standard needed, again showing the attitude problems this team had to day, randomly picked and full of potential errors to occure.

Russell Martin made three substitutions at halftime, bringing on Wes Burns, Kamari Doyle, and Ilari Kangasniemi, while surprisingly not giving minutes to captain Harry Souttar. Kaleb Okoli, Liam Cullen, and Warren O’Hora were replaced. The team shifted to a three-man defense to increase their attacking options.

Leicester improved as they took control, with Kamari Doyle proving his worth. He was likely the best player for Leicester against Stevenage and kept impressing when he came on. Leicester gained new momentum, and it seemed like their efforts would pay off.

Leicester applied pressure, but we had to wait unitl 68th minute for a goal, Emil Riis scored after a nice build-up, demonstrating that Leicester can score attractive goals. Sammy Braybrooke came on for BDCR a minute before Leicester scored.

We hoped for more to happen, but great credit to Peterborough, being able to control the pressure and it all just faded out as this became a huge victory for Robbie Savage on his return to Leicester, not nice to see him almost humiliating everyone with an impressive job done.

There are major problems, but we need to stress that this must be sorted, but still we believe Russell Martin should be given at least 15 league games to show his worth, despite having severe problems to find a pick of players that works, having to many unsettled affairs to sort out.

At least there was a comeback with a 1-3 consolation goal after changing tactics and personnel, but ultimately it was another disappointing home game in front of frustrated fans who feel disconnected from the club and the team.

Positives

  • Getting back, winning second half 1-0, Emil Riis scoring
  • Kamari Doyle impressive when coming on, building up great opportunities

Negatives

  • Everything looks very random, this time dropping Braybrooke and Souttar who looked to be part of the furniture until today
  • John Lundstram having a shocker of a game, being totally taken out by Peterborough
  • Not enough fighting spirit, losing battles on the ball, cannot continue
  • Aluko having a day far from his ability
  • Defensively showing why this can become a nightmare season, hopefully it will be fixed soon
  • Random pick of players, doing changes and not settling anything
  • Russell Martin looks far from able to stabilising this situation, having too many alternative solutions, who does not work
  • Not converting enough from clear chances, especialy in the second half
  • Possibly playing Liam Cullen out of position, watching him against Norway in a central offensive position, showed how he can dominate play and be a good asset, today he was taken off after the first half
  • Not enough pace up front, Will Alves stopping and not going enough times to the line
  • A 1-3 loss against a team second to bottom in League One is a warning signal of dimentions
  • Not able to use the possession to an advantage at all, having 70% of the ball, and having as many attempts on goal as the opponent, shows lack of penetration power and scoring ability

McCarthy 5, Aluko 3, Thomas 4, O’Hora 4, Okoli 4, Lundstram 4, BDCR 3, Page 4, Riis 6, Cullen 3, Alves 4 Subs: Kangasniemi 6, Burns 3, Doyle 5, Braybrooke, Howell
