Leicester City footballers have teamed up with some Norwegian players over the years, but few knows about the two former teammates at Sheffield United, who are now on different planets in the World of football.
Recently Harry Maguire has rised to the top, especially after doing so well for England and reaching the semi’s of the World Cup. Harry has been a bit around before joining Leicester City, playing at Hull City, Wigan Athletic and Sheffield United.
During Maguire’s early days at Sheffield United, a young Norwegian, really unknown also for fans in Norway, with the name Erik Tonne, played four league games and scored one goal for The Blades from 2011 to 2014, he also had a loan spell at York City, and since leaving Sheffield United returned to Norway and played for several clubs, before joining Ranheim in front of this season. The winger has been on fire and scored five goals in nineteen league games.
Ranheim is a phenomena in Norway, the small club from outside Trondheim have players who work part-time and playing football. They are still above the middle and will be fine after getting promoted last season. Tonne has taken the top flight with storm and played well. Few knows about his past at Sheffield United where he teamed up with Harry Maguire.
One of the games where Tonne and Maguire played together was in a JP Trophy game in August 2011. On the bench for Burton Albion was former Leicester City goalkeeper Kevin Poole.
Football is a strange game, but to see Erik Tonne, Kevin Poole and Harry Maguire playing or being involved in the same game at Pirelli Stadium in Burton was a surprise. Kevin Poole played for Leicester City from 1991 to 1997, with a total of 163 league games.
Poole is born in 1963, and he was still a professional footballer in 2011, at the age of 48. He combined his player career with a coaching role at Burton Albion and had appearances in the league at the age of 48. He remained and kept his license until the age of 50.
Today Harry Maguire is one of the most after spoken players in the World of football, Erik Tonne is playing with Ranheim and Kevin Poole, now aged 55, has worked under Gary Rowett at Derby in a goalkeeper coach capacity. Poole left Rams as Rowett took over at Stoke City.
