Prosecutor Ben Payne told the court Hamza Choudhury had a previous drink-driving conviction dating back to 2017, meaning the player faced a mandatory ban of at least three years. So far no disciplinary action has been seen from the club, or any official comment made.
Hamza Choudhury has this season been in good form and an important player in the squad fighting for promotion. The outcome, if he is banned from playing, or just a message that will see him continue as usual, will of course be negative either way.
This is a massive blow for Enzo Maresca, the belief he has put in Hamza Choudhury, giving him a new deal as well as giving him the captain armband on occassions, also after he had been cought, makes it all difficult to handle and understand.
Hamza Choudhury signals a non mature behaviour that other players most certainly will react to. If he is chosen to play, and others are left out, it gives a certain signal. If Enzo decides to drop him and the club gives the player a ban, of course a dilemma. Hamza Choudhury has shown good form and of course is an important player in the run in, with his on field attitude and eagerness to win every battle he is in.
Leicester do have a number of players that will be out of contract in the summer, that they are eager to keep. They also have a number of first team qualified players not getting enough game time. So it will be interesting to see how the club reacts to the Hamza Choudhury situation, and how that will stress other players deciding on their future.
Bouba Soumare is a player that has cought the eye of several clubs in Spain and Italy, with Juventus said to be in the chase. The fact that Paul Pogba is out for four years, could trigger a move in the summer for the Leicester player, currently on a loan spell at Sevilla, running to the end of the season.
