Late last month the news broke regarding Ritchie De Laet. He will leave Royal Antwerpen at the end of the season, so what will be next for a player with a remarkable journey in football, winning a number of major trophies, including the Premier League title with Leicester in 2015/16.
He was last picking up a league winners medal in Belgium, being influential in the Royal Antwerpen team that won the title in 2022/23. They also won the Belgian cup last season, so a double act there for the former Leicester defender.
He played in the start of the 2015/16 season, when Leicester won the title. He made a total of 12 appearances, scoring 1 goal, in that 3-2 home win vs. Aston Villa. Leicester were 2-0 down, scoring the 1-2 goal with a nice flick from a corner. Great memories and nice to watch.
De Laet later in the season joined Middlesbrough on loan, ending runners-up and becoming a bit iconic, winning Premier League as well as being part of a promotion from Championship.
He joined Leicester from Manchester United in a double move together with Matty James as the two had great impact from the day the came in, playing regularly in the first team during their two first seasons, in total De Laet played 115 league games for Leicester, before his move to Aston Villa in 2016.
He was not much involved as he never managed to find life to full under his days at Villa Park, playing just 8 league games in three years, also spending time on loan at Royal Antwerpen and Melbourne City.
De Laet joined Royal Antwerpen permanent in 2019 and since then not really looking back getting them back in the top in Belgian football and last season winning the league title. He has to date played 141 league games for Royal Antwerpen and scored 2 goals, the one in them a beauty vs. KVO.
He has since his debut at Royal Antwerpen back in 2006-07, played at a lot of different clubs, being on loan at places such as Wrexham, Portsmouth, Norwich and Preston, as well as being signed and sold by Sir Alex Ferguson.
