Leicester are in a favourable position to sign two special free agents this summer. Brahima Diarra (20) is confirmed released and will be leaving Huddersfield. He has not featured for The Terriers since early February, playing 21 league games this season, being in the line-up in both games vs. Leicester.
Diarra looked a handfull in his offensive midfield position and at his age, one to build on, as we believe he could be a very exciting addition. He was not played much from the time Andre Breitenreiter took charge of The Terriers, possibly because he was looking for a way out, with other clubs in higher positions showing interest.
Diarra is born in France, but represents the nation of Mali, and at his young age and also with his experience at this stage, one to really look at as an addition to the Leicester squad. He has in total played 42 league games for Huddersfield. Hull and West Bromwich are keen and with them playing Championship level next season, he might be triggered to move there, with more possibility to play as a regular over a full season. His potential is huge and of course one we would have liked to see in a Leicester shirt, but we look in the back seat at this point.
Another name that has turned up lately is Mohamed Konate. A forward at the age of 26. Basically being in Russia for most of his career, playing for Akhmat Grozny, Khimki and Tambov. He has also had spells in Latvia Kazakhstan and Armenia along the road.
Konate became an international for Burkina Faso in 2020. To date played 25 times for his nation. Born in the Ivory Coast, Konaté is of Burkinabé descent. On 9 October 2020, Konaté made his debut in the Burkina Faso national team, in a friendly 3–0 win over DR Congo. In August 2023, he received Russian citizenship. He is a strong athlete and forward type that looks explosive, having a good goal ratio that makes him an interesting player, and as we all know, free to sign.
He looks an interesting type, but with no experience from the higher shelves of European football and also playing at a club currently mid table in a league not really being tested at this point, you have to be careful about your recruitment and consider your options. There will be loads of options over the summer and we would hope Leicester were out looking for a type such as Che Adams, who can be one to watch, also looking to become a free agent this summer.
Yunus Akgun as we earlier predicted will not continue at the club after his loan spell ended. He has wished everyone of us all the best for next season as his life in football looks to be back at Galatasaray.
