Well informed Midlands football reporter for the Daily Telegraph and Sunday Telegraph, John Percy, has confirmed that talks are on and that Enzo can be leaving, but is in a race with other candidates, one of them believed to be Kieran McKenna of Ipswich.
The thrill of be in charge of a club playing in Europe and having so many special young talents to work with, makes this move a perfect fit, as he knows how to develop and bring young talent forward. To get a chance at a major club in Premier League, could also be the one chance, but still the odds of getting sacked inside the season coming is almost 1/1 and in that perspective you should probably avoid such an approach.
Kieran McKenna is of course the other candidate, and with all the uncertainty at Man Utd in the wait for the FA Cup to played, we have seen the people in the high tower at Old Trafford can sack people even if they win trophies and what they are looking for, who knows. Kieran McKenna also have a past at Leicester, being part of the coaching staff at the academy, taking his degree in sports at the Loughborough University.
The executive people inside the offices at Chelsea and Man Utd are more or less being dictated by non-football people and are looking at other clubs as a benchmark and do not take into consideration the person having the job at this moment. They believe the trend at this time is the young man, coming out of Pep School, playing a type of football based on control and possession. But the game is not that simple, so we just have to wait and see what happens.
The School of Pep is one to admire, but it’s not the only way forward. Everything is in the blue, but we are not starting any speculation, not yet, as we will hopefully have Enzo Maresca as manager also for the next season. Maresca and McKenna are both managers that likes to play with possession and be orientated around the philosophy of Pep, and both do fit Chelsea with a group of youngsters that they really can work on and make great stars.
