Leicester took part in HKFC Soccer Sevens this weekend. One player had a special part in a good run of games for the U.21 squad. England U.19 goalkeeper Brad Young. He saved two penalties in the shoot outs vs. West Ham winning 4-3, and then in The Shields Final scoring in play as Leicester came out 2-1 winners.

Leicester had to leave the main tournament, defeated by Brighton (1-2), Marcal Madivadua scoring for Leicester in that quarter final. Brighton went on to win the main trophy with Leicester bringing home the Shield.

Brad Young has been back at Leicester this season, after spending a number months last season on loan with Notts County without getting any game time at all. At the age of 22 the clock is ticking fast. A new loan move looks the obvious. Young joined Leicester from Hartlepool back in 2021. This season he has been the preferred choice in the U.21 set up.

Leicester travelled to the tournament with a strong group of players, Marcal Madivadua being their captain. In the group also seen, Brandon Cover, Oli Ewing, Silko Thomas, Chris Popov, Henry Cartwright, Amani Richards and Logan Briggs.

Coach Ben Petty believed it had been a successful tournament for the Leicester City Under-21s in Hong Kong, coming away with the Soccer Sevens Shield trophy. Going back out to Hong Kong to participate in the seven-a-side tournament, he felt it was another high-level competition which ended on a positive note for the Foxes youngsters to round off the 2023/24 campaign.

There are of course a lot of questions also regarding the U.21 team, with a number of players to take next steps in football as others will be staying in the group. This is the difficult part, to split with players that really have a life in the professional game, and possibly missing out one or two that will take steps and become great footballers. Hopefully we can more players through to the first team, but this is a part of football that we all know about.
