In Both Camps; Bolton Wanderers

Leicester and Bolton do have a number of players who have represented both clubs. Emile Heskey played for Bolton from 2014 to 2016. Looking back as he once was Leicester’s most valued asset, and in his last season as a professional, being at Bolton as Leicester won the league and Emile found himself in League Two action.

He had reached the age of 38 by the time, as his career started 21 years earlier in Premier League action for Leicester. He made his first-team debut at the age of 17 in a Premier League match against Queens Park Rangers on 8 March 1995.

Ian Walker was another England international making a move from Leicester to Bolton. Strangely he never made a single appearance while on the books at The Trotters, being there from 2005 to 2008. Walker had his best years at Spurs and later Leicester, being picked for England at both clubs.

Going a bit back special Leicester players such as Steve Whitworth and Frank Worthington, later represented Bolton. Worthington going down a division, helping Bolton back up to the top flight, being at the club from 1977 to 1979. Whitworth played for Bolton from 1981 to 1983.

Nathan Blake is a forward that made a major mark while with Bolton, later playing a more modest role at Leicester for a short while from 2004 to 2005. The Wales international played for The Trotters from 1995 to 1998, adding up 107 appearances, scoring 38 goals.

Franz Carr, Les Ferdinand, Paul Fitzpatrick and Arnar Gunnlaugsson are other players with a past in both camps. Gunnlaugsson joining Leicester for a major fee of £2million back in 1998.

Former Leicester manager Matt Gillies joined Leicester from Bolton, as his only clubs in professional football. Playing 145 league games for The Trotters, adding up 103 for Leicester before retirement and joining the coaching staff, later to become a long lasting legendary manager at the club.

Forward Jimmy Hernon is another to mention, joining Bolton from Leicester in 1948, playing a total of 31 league games for Leicester, 43 games for Bolton. Goalkeeper Russel Hoult spent time on loan at Bolton, during his days at Leicester. Kevin Poole is another goalkeeper with a life in both camps, joining Bolton in his latter parts of career. Peter Shilton also made one appearance as an emergancy goalkeeper, stepping in while being on the books of Bolton as a goalkeeper coach back in 1994.

Gerry Taggart was a free agent signed from Bolton, turning out to become a great addition to the Leicester team in the O’Neill era. Bruno N’Gotty is another defender with a life in both camps.
