The Leicester women team will finish at the bottom of the WSL this season. Their last two fixtures can’t change that. Alisha Lehmann and her teammates could still stay up. They are handed a lifeline with a qualification game against the team finishing 3rd in the second tier.

According to BBC, Leicester only have to win that play-off game and they will play in the WSL next season. The number of teams in the top tier will be extended from 12 to 14 teams.

Certain rumours and talk regarding the womens team avoiding relegation, could still be a negative, looking at the financial side. Reading being seen as the example. The Royals mens team have struggled in League One for a number of seasons. Having a women team in the building, fighting at the highest level or at least higher than their mens team, makes a strange balance within the club.

We could be in for a very strange situation at Leicester next season, having the mens team playing third tier football and the women on the highest level. Should in real not be a problem as the mens game still is the most prominent, but of course hopefully giving the women more publicity.

We certainly hope for the women team to survive and that their positive progression can continue. The fact that they are not running that business area with a positive outcome financially will be part of the PSR calculations.

This season has been a nightmare for both genders. Leicester are struggling to keep up with the situations all around. The women team are in the bottom position, with only 9 points this season. Their last outing was away to Arsenal, getting smashed 0-7.

Two games left this season. First they will face Chelsea at home on the 3rd of May. The season will come to a close with the away game vs. Everton on the 16th of May. That play-off game wil take place on the 23rd of May. The team ending 3rd in the WSL2 will play at home against Leicester.

The race in the second tier is still very much on. Charlton are the current leaders with 42 points. Birmingham are in second place one point behind, above Crystal Palace on goal difference. Everything is in the air for that last fixture of the season, all being played tomorrow. Charlton and Birmingham face each other. Crystal Palace will play at home to bottom placed Portsmouth, so an exciting afternoon to look forward to.

The situation for the women department also have positives. The U21’s winning their league. Next season they are up in the top tier, as this group of special talents will most certainly be part of the future, looking to make huge progress under their current leadership.
