The rebuild of Leicester to become a competitive team in League One is not just about bringing on board all the young players in the academy. It’s far from it, and experienced players with the knowledge and attitude to be part of such a lift is needed.

Matty James, Daniel Amartey and Jeffrey Sclhupp are three individuals with a long life in the top tiers of english football that might look at a return to Leicester for a second period, being part of a completion and all of them also settling unfinished business.

Matty James has another year left on his contract, but at this point, being part of a push to reach the play-off’s this season and falling out on the last day might be a reason for him to look for another challenge next season. Wrexham owners will probably look at their team and try to strengthen in certain ereas and move players on.

Leicester will have to shuffle their squad around, bringing in Matty James for a push to get out of League One would be a no brainer. He would be the perfect man to have in a group and also bringing in quality and experience needed in a League One battle. Would probably not be much of a fee to pay, to get him off the books at Wrexham.

Jeffrey Schlupp was linked with Leicester in the summer, but ended up at Norwich. His contract is running out in June he will be available on a free. Had his troubles with injuries this season, but still a player of great quality that could play in various positions. He would bring the menality and understanding in this group of many youngsters.

Daniel Amartey is in a desperate situation at the moment. He is looking to be considered for the World Cup, using time on his own to regain fitness after a long period out of the game since leaving Turkey. He was linked with a move to Bayern Munich last January but it never became reality. His presence at Leicester was mainly in Premier League action. His situation and qualities were often discussed, but at League One level he would be a valiuable asset.

Schlupp (33) and James (34) were both in the first team squad and appeared in the Premier League winning season. Schlupp played in 26 league games that season, James in the squad but not appearing in games. Schlupp surprisingly left Leicester in January 2017, joining Crystal Palace for a fee of £12million. James stayed at Leicester until 2021, but mostly playing out on loan during his latter days at the club.

Daniel Amartey moved from Leicester to join Besiktas in 2023. He was plagued with injuries during his time at Leicester. He is 31 years of age and can operate in a great number of positions. We all know he had a bit of a struggle during his time at Leicester, never really managing to get a good run and often being set on the sidelines. He is currently without a club and would be a fantastic addition in League One.
