One of the flank players expected to hare after the long balls from the back which were Cambridge’s trademark tactic as they rose via successive promotions from the League’s basement to the upper reaches of the Second Division.

Lee was himself the object of a long chase by Brian Little. Eventually signed for an appearances related fee rising to a record equalling £350,000 (in time to watch a 2-2 Filbert Street draw between his old and new clubs), he was soon noted for the quality of his crosses, but berated for not delivering enough of them.

After possibly his finest moments as provider in the 1993 Play Off Final comeback against Swindon Town, Lee has virutally defined inconcistancy, whether emplyed wide up front (in mazy or direct mode), in midfield, or even at left-back, and can appear frustratingly les than motivated occasion.

His transfer-listing in May 1995 came as little surprise, though he remained a squad member as 1995/96 got underway. He finally left the club in 1996, Blackpool paying £95,000 for his services. He also played for Lincoln and Hull before moving into non-league football.

Later been part of the football industry. Lee founded LPM Football Agents in May 2008 and heads a team of agents based across the UK and in 2024 became a partner at Game Changer Football Agency.
