Finally Sidnei Tavares made his move after a number of different clubs being seen as interested, but in the end Tavares returned back home and signed for Porto. Sadly not able to hold on to the talent which could become one of Europe’s best players and certainly a future Portugal international, sad day really.

The fact that the club looks for a central defender option and could consider one more move makes it interesting to look at players available and see who could fit in as a cover of those injured players.
Embed from Getty ImagesAnother surprise is the situation with Filip Benkovic, were is he in the picture and accordingly not a player good enough for Premier League action. Ben Nelson is the next player on the list, but still only 17 and probably not yet either a Premier League alternative.
Benkovic has been out on loan on several occasions, and had a couple of appearances in pre-season. He has also in previous seasons been at Celtic, Bristol City, Cardiff and Leuven. He might have a fitness issue not even involved in the Leicester U.23’s.
His contract is running until June 23, and then it’s a bit of a riddle that the 24 year old is not really seen as an alternative at all and not able to find a club to get a loan switch, we just hope that the Croatian international will get back in the picture and get rated.
Looking at the list of available players we do have a grand group of good defenders with Spurs right back Serge Aurier on top of this list with a value of £20million stipulated. Two players that could have been perfect signings for Leicester are former Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi who was available on a free, but has decided to join Torino, and sadly not even been mentioned Jerome Boateng moving from Bayern Munich to Lyon also being released at the end of last season. The two German internationals was never seen as possible targets.
Few or no one are much interested in Jack Wilshire either, still possible to sign for free, but believed to soon find a new club being in training with Italian Serie B club Como. He would have been a sensational back up to have in a squad as his qualities when fit are up to top Premier League standard.
Embed from Getty ImagesWith Scott Dann no longer an alternative Dimitris Siovas, a Greek international at the age of 32, might fit the picture of a cover sentral defender. He has earlier played for Panionios, Olympiacos, Legranes and Huesca, being a team mate of Shinji Okazaki, who has also been on the move and joined Cartagena.
Nicolas Nkoulou is a brilliant player that left Torino this summer, and at 31 still one to look at. The Cameroon international with 75 caps to his name could of course go straight into a Leicester side as a fringe or rotation alternative. He is chased by a number of Serie A clubs with Genoa and Sampdoria both keen to do business.
Takihiro Tomiyasu was a late signing at Arsenal, Leicester missing out on the 22 year old Japan international. He was a late link, but as we did see joined another Premier League club. A player to look at is central defender Rodrigo Ely also available on a free after leaving Alaves in Spain. The Italian / Brazilian could be a good alternative in the back, could be on his way to Brazil and Flamengo.
Strange to see that Leicester this summer has not been much interested in players of this type and another name that did occur is of coure David Luiz and we do now his skills and as a possible cover it would be a good alternative allthough he might be too expensive and expected probably more game time than Leicester can offer.
We have now added possible central defenders who are free agents on our list, so again have a new look at our hot, cool and cold update.
