Paul Appiah has been at Leicester since he arrived in July. First he was seen as a trialist and later being integrated in the development squad. He was released at Aston Villa after last season.
Appiah looks as solid recruitment and still at an age that makes it interesting to see how his progression will be during this season.
He is still only 19, turning 20 in October as his development will be of great interest as Leicester again must look at talented players in their own backyard to fill in if injuries strikes. There are great tradition at Leicester to bring forward young players.
A number of the players in the development squad has allready been involved in first team affairs as we did see them being on the bench for games in Europe and also made their bow in Premier League, FA Cup and EFL Cup games.
Will not be surprised if Paul Appiah gets his chance, and strange to see yet another young prospect being picked up from Aston Villa as Appiah is follwing Lewis Brunt and at the moment playing alongside him in the development team.
So far Paul Appiah has been involved in five U.21 PL2 games and done really well. He did also appaer in the cup game vs. Burton Albion and again had a good game.
He was born to Ghanaian parents in the United Kingdom and started his career with the Chelsea academy before leaving in 2019 to join Aston Villa. Appiah played an instrumental role in Aston Villa’s U18 English FA Youth Cup triumph after defeating Liverpool to clinch the tile last season.
Appiah captained the Aston Villa Under-18 team during the 2020/21 season. He was part of the team that lifted the FA Youth Cup in May 2021, scoring in the quarter-final. He also featured for the Under-23 squad during the last campaign, playing twice in the EFL Trophy against Fleetwood Town and Carlisle United.
Hopefully he will progress and become another big asset for Leicester as the club follows him up as much as possible to get him out of the development enviroment and into a full grown first team contributer.
