Former Norwegian television sports commentator, Arne Scheie, turns 80 this weekend. He was born on the 7th of January 1944, and for all these decades covering different sports in Norwegian telly.

His legendary commentaries from different Winter Olympics and Football World Cup’s, being “the voice” when Norway have taken home gold medals as well as being behind the microphone when Norway defeated Brazil in the 1998 World Cup.

This is well known, but few others, than Arne Scheie himself and of course the base of Norwegian Leicester fans, do have the game vs. Spurs at Filbert Street in 1973, as a major highlight and very memorable moment of his career.

This was Scheie’s debut as a “Tippekampen” commentator, covering English games live on a Saturday evening, Norwegian time 16.00, as had this coverage from the 1969 season and on. This was also the case in Sweden, as our countries do have a grand following and fondness of English football.

Remember the game as it was yesterday, as it also was the debut of Steve Earle. Meeting Scheie once, he had his special quiz from his first game, asking who was the other debutant on this day?

All the best to Arne Scheie on his 80th birthday, from all of us Norwegian Leicester City fans as his voice of commentary will never be forgotten by this generation of football followers.
