Back in the days at RB Salzburg, Patson Daka was dubbed the next Samuel Eto’o’ and described as a “goal machine”, with a ratio of 65%, scoring 54 goals in 82 league games for the Austrian club. Man City, Arsenal, Liverpool and Man Utd were all said to be in the chase for his signature. The route to a steady first team position made him sure Leicester were the place to go, as he signed on, for a fee of £23million.
Since his league debut three years ago, he has not been seen as a regular. Jamie Vardy and Kelechi Iheanacho were allready at the club, so the fight for a starting position, with more or less only one spot to compete for, made it all difficult. In total Patson Daka has scored 16 goals in 73 league appearances since coming in.
His contract is running until the end of June 2026, being on a five year deal. As we speak, Daka and Tom Cannon are the only options up front at this minute. Jamie Vardy is set for talks regarding a new deal, Kelechi Iheanacho is one we believe will leave, hopefully Vardy will sign, and then Daka could be an option for sale.
He used to play in a partnership with Erling Haaland at RB Salzburg. To join Leicester looked a positive at the time, but Brendan Rodgers and later both Dean Smith and Enzo Maresca has not been totally convinced. Daka has in real been a third choice at times. To again see him linked with a move to Arsenal, is a bit of a surprise, not really having the progress needed to have success in that environment. But being played in the correct frame, you never know, recently seeing Juselu make the highest stage, at the age of 34 and with a past at Espanyol, Newcastle and Stoke.
Daka’s life at Leicester could have been a fairystory but he has not been as consistant as we would have liked him to be, having seen the top of his performances, but also the lowest level, not really convinced he would shine in a top spot at Arsenal, but of course a good footballer with a professional attitude and surely still willing to learn.
The fact that he was seen as a potential player to sign for the likes of Man City, Man Utd, Liverpool and Arsenal, would probably be a reality check for Leicester as they surely have not been able to build on his base from the time with RB Salzburg.
Leicester would be looking at a fee between £12 to £15million, to balance out the value of his contract at the minute and of course cashing in a substantial fee.
