Conor David Coady (born 25 February 1993) play as a centre-back. The 31-year-old has been in the Leicester team intermittently. He joined in the summer of 2023. Coady was seriously injured in his first game for the club. He had no impact in the early days of the 2023-24 season. A serious foot injury became a major set back. He never managed to get his role and identity clear since then.
Coady came through the academy system at Liverpool. He made two appearances for the first team. He spent a season on loan at Sheffield United. Then he moved to Huddersfield Town on a permanent transfer in 2014. A year later, he signed for Wolverhampton Wanderers for £2 million. He played over 300 games for the club. He won the Championship in the 2017–18 season. In 2022–23, he was sent on loan to Everton, before joining Leicester City in 2023.
Coady represented England at youth level. He was named in the team of the tournament as England won the 2010 UEFA European Under-17 Championship. He also captained the England under-20 team at the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup. He made his debut for the senior team in 2020. He was part of the squad that came runners-up at UEFA Euro 2020.
This season Coady has frequently been involved, and at one time being a first choice. The team performed terribly. This made it difficult for Ruud van Nistelrooy to keep selecting Coady. Coady had also been captain on a few occasions. He was seen as one of the best defenders in Premier League during his best days at Wolves. He played for the Everton team that avoided relegation in the 2022-23 season. During that season, Leicester instead had to take the step down.
He looks a player that came to Leicester with high ambitions. He has abilities to be a leader and also a captain. But in some way, he has never managed to convince enough to become a certainty in the Leicester team.
