Leicester’s Momentum: The Fearless Approach So Much Needed in 90 Minutes of Play

Harry Redknapp once said “it’s all about the players”, but is that totally true? We have seen good performances from Leicester this season, but often it does not last a full game. From the upper top to the bottom low with changes in minutes.

Marti Cifuentes has said it’s a cultural situation, and it takes time to change. But is that a mental issue? Or is it just something he says to just talk away difficult questions?

The first half vs. Derby and Bristol City were amazing to watch. The second half vs. Sheffield United was one of the best this season. So why are Leicester as a team switching over so fast from a totally different momentum.

We believe the word fearless needs to be addressed. If you are fearless, you will keep pushing forward. You won’t do what people do when they are nervous and want to protect something. It would be easy to understand if you have a few minutes left of a game. However, stopping to play completely, as Leicester have done in the two games vs. Derby and Bristol City, is a decision. This decision is made by either the players or the manager.

We all know that Leicester are superior in talent, compared to most clubs in this division. Ipswich would be the benchmark. They are the only team in the same category. Both have players with experience from the level above. Watching Leicester in games this season shows a remarkable pattern. They struggle randomly, regardless of who they are playing. At the same time, they dominate against opposition above them in the table.

Marti Cifuentes talks about a process, which often is difficult to write out in a clear vision. This often involves player tranfers in and out. Difficult decision making regarding tactics. Players being used or benched in certain games. A change of culture that some players will have difficulties with. This is of course not easy to address directly. However, you can talk about it, as Marti Cifuentes has done. Avoid pinpointing the clarity, as that would be difficult and unwise to do.

He reflects on these results as we do. He also has the job to get it cleared out. However, as we all know, individuals are different. They act in different ways and often react differently to what is happening around them.

Many players are out of contract in the summer. This fact should not really affect anyone more than it does with Jordan James. But there is a very different life for him. He has a long-term deal at Rennes. This contract does not run out before June 2028. He does not have to think much about his life. If a permanent move happens, joining Leicester, he will get a new deal long term.

The squad faces uncertainty. The large age gap between the oldest and youngest players is a challenge. It makes it difficult to build a strong bond between everyone. And with so many players uncertain about their future, you will get these problems.

Marti Cifuentes needs to show the young group of players that he trust them and believe in them. The only way he can address this is giving them all game time in the first team. At the moment, players such as Jeremy Monga, Louis Page, and Olabade Aluko are nearing inclusion in the first team. Ben Nelson is one we do see will be given opportunities as well.

There is no real momentum at the moment. Marti Cifuentes knows that. He needs to bring results to the table. He must also make a solid foundation for many players. They do not really know much about their short future. We hope players focus on what is right in front of them. They should not worry about what will happen next season.

Certain fans goes to black, when one or two results are negative. Losing that lead vs. Bristol City is in all not acceptable. Though getting into that situation is not really acknowledged. However, it is something you have to do if you are to judge someone.

Still not Marti Cifuentes out, but he should have picked up a lot more points with this team. In reality, this situation reflects how points are lost. We also know that this can be fantastic when everything clicks, that must what we should believe in.
