Leicester City did confirm today the move of Ben Chilwell to Chelsea, and as this transfer was taken over the line, new deals could be completed shortly. Leicester City played their first pre-season friendly today and a number of players were absent.
Dennis Praet did not feature among the 22 selected and his name has lateley been linked with a possible return to Serie A and FC Turin. Praet struggled a bit last season and found himself often taken off or being used as a sub by Brendan Rodgers.
Brendan Rodgers has been busy with new contracts offered and accepted by Nampalys Mendy, Jamie Vardy and James Maddision, who all will of course then be part of the future first team plans at the club.
Demarai Gray did play today, but could be triggered by a possible chance to join Tottenham Hotspur and free up space to sign Odsonne Edouard from Celtic who looks as the most obvious option among the attacking players linked to the club, but to just throw a bit of cold water into that rumour, Arsenal are also keen.
Islam Slimani is a target for Rennes and hopefully that move will be completed and sorted, the same to be said about Adrien Silva who has attracted interest from CSKA Moscow. Rachid Ghezzal spent last season on loan at Fiorentina and no surprise if he departs as well.
What we did see today v. Birmingham City were a group of young players that are serious contenders for a place in and around the first team with quality shown in all areas. Especially Josh Knight, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Sidney Tavares impressed and with Luke Thomas, not playing today, also in the mix, the club have so much talent to bring forward.
The left back position is one heavily discussed after the departure of Ben Chilwell, and with an aging Christian Fuchs and a young and unproven Luke Thomas as the two only alternatives, most believe that a new signing will be made to cover that position.
There are of course rumours out there, but if you look at it with an objective eye, Leicester City are not the only club in the chase, and regarding one said to be among Brendan Rodgers favorites, Atalanta’s Timothy Castagne, he is also a top target for Roma.
Nicolas Tagliafico might be listed as a close target for Leicester City, but he is also a player linked with Barcelona, and that might see this rumour a bit colder than we would expect from just looking at it with Leicester City glasses on.
Fulham alternative Joe Brien is one player that has been linked over a period of time, and also Roma defender Juan Jesus are among names mentioned lately, if Tagliafico is out of the picture, Kiernan Tierney from Arsenal, who is among those linked, would be a personal favorite.
Other names to consider and mentioned are Norwich City’s Jamal Lewis, Angers and French U.21 international Rayan Ait Nouri, and of course you have Ryan Bertrand and Vitesse’s Max Clark also in the talking zone.
