Former fox makes great progress in AFCON, 34 years of age and closing in on 100 caps for his country

Max Gradel left Leicester back in 2010 and since been travelling around to play professional in different countries and league’s. He has in this years AFCON been in great form for his nation The Ivory Coast.

Looking at his stats you will find him on 92 caps at this moment and sure he is on his way to 100, hopefully he will reach his landmark.

He is in a team with players that knows each other well and do have a grand amount of routine as they are pushing for a final spot in this tournament. Gradel scored the 1-0 winner vs. Equtorial Guinea. This was a beauty of a goal.

To see Gradel up against Riyad Mahrez was a thrill and coming out as winners was even more impressive as they played the holder of the cup. He has silently been in there and played for his nation through all of his career and a favorite in his country.

Max Gradel left Leicester in 2010 after four years part of the first team set up. He played 21 league games before moving to Leeds after loan spells at Elland Road and with Bournemouth prior to his permanent move away.

Since leaving Leicester his been travelling and played for a number of clubs and today is playing in Turkey with Sivasspor, joining them from Toulouse in 2020. He is seen as a quality player and his performances at internatioanl lavel is impressive.

Currently part of an exciting run in AFCON and hopefully pushing on for more caps as his nation looks to have one of the stronger teams and would be good to see yet another former fox being part of good progress.

Algeria and Riyad Mahrez are out of the tournament after being defeated 3-1 by Max Gradel and The Ivory Coast. Gradel will face Egypt in their next game, a difficult hurdle in a run that could end up in the final of this event.

Daniel Amartey and Ghana are out. Nigeria with Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho in their team, former fox Ahmed Musa also among their players. Nigera are among the favorites to win the AFCON tournament, they are facing Tunisia in their round of 16 on Sunday, 23rd of January.

Senegal and Nampalys Mendy are also among the teams in the round of 16. They will play Kapp Verde as they also are favorites to progress to the quarter finals.
