The game yesterday was another with loads of possession and domination. We all know where you need to be for your final in football, in front of the opponents goal and of course defending yourself properly in your own half, if not possession in itself makes no result.
Championship opponents are all reading the game and are far from fools, so without little or no flexibility and few ideas of how to play and turn around a result, you are stuck in Enzoball mud.
The game was there for the taking, but to see Abdul Fatawu and Stephy Mavididi both being played on their wrong foot is strange. Their crosses slided away and not towards as left and right could have been switched to get both players on their best foot.
This is of course a long and difficult discussion, but when you are stuck in one pattern, this time The Argyle, you might have to find another way out, as this game again showed how difficult it can be. Home Park is not the easiest for Leicester, last winning a game there on the 24th of September, 1955. Arthur Rowley scored the only goal of the game, as one of 35 from him in the league that season, ending joint top goalscorer with the Scot, Willie Gardiner. Leicester ended 5th in the 2nd tier that season.
Enzo had Wilfred Ndidi (right) and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall (left) back in their positions in midfield, but still things stumbled and it was not fluid at all. Being shocked to see Harry Winks having too many sloppy touches, not to understand from such a skilful player.
Leicester are not the only team to come down to the south coast and experiencing difficulties, it was not possible for Pelè either to win at Home Park. Plymouth defeated Santos 3-2 that night in 1973, with the icon scoring from the penalty spot. 37 000 turned up to watch this special friendly.
Plymouth were promoted from League One, and they are not at the standards of Leicester, far from it, but in football you have to score and if you don’t, you can lose even with massive possession.
We still have the faith in Enzo and his project, but at times it looks a bit locked and not really much fun to watch. Hopefully the next two home games, playing West Bromwich and Southampton, will be more fun to watch.
This run for promotion looks to continue all into the very last day of play and hopefully Leicester will be able to bring home enough points to be one of two teams to go straight up, with also Ipswich and Leeds not really cruising either.
