Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Harry Kane and Ivan Toney all overlooked as another England international comes to surface with his Leicester denial story

We all know the chapters written about players being overlooked and later shone at the very top of the football pyramid. Riyad Mahrez is said to have left a St. Mirren trial on a borrowed bike, and luckily ended up at Leicester sometime later. Ben White had a different experience, being overlooked once on a trial at Leicester.

Back in the start of this century Leicester got a written letter about two major Swedish teenage talents, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Kim Kallstrom, but the club kindly rejected the approach as they had other priorities going forward, both players could have been picked up for less than £2million.

Harry Kane joined Leicester on loan and the club had a window and opportunity to sign him on for a fee of £600.000. Kane was often played out of position, out wide, but managed to score 2 goals in 13 league appearances in the 2012-13 season.

Listening to an interview with Ivan Toney, he also had a story of being rejected at Leicester at an early age, never getting into the acedemy at the club, something Leicester might regret today.

Hopefully the club have learned their lesson, but still to see proven top stars later to be heavily overlooked, rejected or even being ignored, might tell a story of a club that needs to step up regarding scouting and recruitment, but again also having a number of great examples of the very opposite.

Jamie Vardy, Riyad Mahrez, Danny Drinkwater and N’Golo Kante, are of course players that had seen themselves in a bit of dry sand when Leicester turned up and gave them the chance to shine on the very highest level, Kantè even ending up as a World Cup winner.
